Just left a local dealer and they have a Trophy 2013 laying around with 9,500 miles.  Wondering if you all would have any tips at what I should be looking for before I get into it.  Any help is appreciated. I know about the recalls and will check the vin for sure on it, the dealer should be able to run a report correct?

Thanks ahead of time for your wisdom.

    Hi Jtharnde, and :400:  !

This Forum is packed with information about the Trophy model introduced in 2012,
so have a "play" with the SEARCH button on the Top Menu Bar for answers to any specific questions,
or if you can't find something just start a new Topic in the relevant Section  :028:

A good place to start reading is here : TOP TIPS for New Forum Members
and if you scroll down the page you will find links to a number of useful Topics,
    including a "New Owner Checklist".

Some problems on the early models were :
Tight Headstock wiring pulling wires out of the Ignition Switch
Front wheel not balanced correctly resulting in slight wheel "wobble"
"Cupping" of front tyre - original Spec tyres ( Pirelli Angel ST) seem prone to this
Rear Tyre - check for plenty of tread - original spec tyre ( Pirelli Angel ST )
can go from looking OK to the ply cords becoming visible and exposed very quickly !

      Front disc(s) warped
      Front fork seals leaking
Gear Change pedal corrosion causing binding on the pivot bolt,
and in worse case breakage / shearing of the bolt - check for smooth operation
Heated Grips : Heated Grips are an OPTION although all Trophy's have the switch fitted,
so check to make sure if the salesman tells you they are fitted !
Heated Grips & Seats Instrument Panel Icons - even after fitting these accessories,
the Dealer may have to enable their Icons to be displayed on the Instrument Panel
Triumph Electronic Suspension ( TES )
Check that it works and the different Modes can be selected
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System ( TPMS ) - check there are no "Low TPMS Battery" warnings.
The TPMS unit is not designed to have it's battery replaced,
requiring complete replacement of the unit !
Check that all applicable Recalls and Modifications have been completed AND
that this has been entered into the relevant page of the Service Handbook ( Page 5 ).

    Cheers  :821:

    Welcome.

It's a great bike and should you purchase it I predict you'll love it.

Make sure the firmware for the audio system is updated.
My mother asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said "a biker". She said I'd have to choose one or the other.

    Bludy L : Thanks for that one - overlooked it -! :028:

Jtharnde : Early Trophy SE's for the US & Canadian market with the XM satellite radio
had a "bug" in the audio software which sometimes left the Audio switched on,
when the Ignition was switched off, and after a day or so this could completely drain
the main motorcycle battery - often resulting in a new battery being needed  :012:

A software update was released that fixed this problem, so you should check that this is up to date  :169:

    It's easy to do :
The radio should be OFF when the Ignition is turned ON ( but don't start the engine ).
If the Radio is ON, turn it OFF ( Volume all the way down to Minimum, Mute and Off ),
then turn the Ignition OFF and back ON again.
Press and hold the "P" button until the "DIAGNOSTICS" menu is displayed.
Scroll to the S/W VERSION item, and press the handlebar Select button.

You must have Version 1.04E - If it's 1.04A this is the previous version that must be updated.
The Dealer should carry out this update if needed at no cost.

Its' also worth checking for any Diagnostic Trouble Codes ( DTC's )
which can also be displayed on the Instrument Panel :

Press the SCROLL UP and SELECT buttons together,
and hold them in - while switching on the Ignition.
If the Display reads "P0000" then there are no DTC's stored.
If any DTC's ARE displayed, see this Topic : Servicing Data, Reference Info. & DTC ( Fault ) Codes -
Scroll  to the Reply "Diagnostic Trouble Codes ( DTC's ) / Fault Codes
where you can download a "Word" document explaining the meaning of each DTC Code.

    Cheers  :821:

Hello, over there in Michigan's brewery capital (or so I've heard -- is it true?) -- from east of you. I bought my bike private from a guy in GR.

Things I'd look for that don't seem to be mentioned is -- and this might not be a deal breaker but a deal maker (lower price for you): scuffed undersides of the brake and/or shift lever as that may indicate a drop and therefore a potential break of those pedals without warning (can be an easy fix, can also be a pain); related to this, if the bike's been down you may see that your turn signal housing units are scuffed/cracked.

Let us know what you end up doing!

:401:  It is a fine ride and with miles should have all the recalls done.  My 13 has a new ECM, fuel tank and software recalls as the major ones.   Enjoy the ride.  :821:
