Help on Mounting a Garmin 2699 GPS to the Trophy #A9828011 "XM Mount"

I'm having a Triumph GPS mount installed on my Trophy this Monday and I'm trying to figure out a good way to mount my current GPS which is Garmin nuvi 2699LMTHD.  I really like this GPS and have used it on my 2006 Connie.  But I just used a suction mount on the windshield on the Connie.

I haven't found a Garmin cradle that fits this unit either.  Being a 6" size adds to the complications.

Any ideas or suggestions would greatly be appreciated!  Thanks.....

First of all, whatever Mounting Solution you come up with,
if you are going to fix it onto the Triumph Sat Nav bracket,
note that any wiring ( Power / Audio ) needs to be routed through that bracket,
and this is best done at the time it is installed,
to save having to take all the Cockpit Plastic off again later  :169:

Here's a link to a Forum Topic explaining how the Sat Nav bracket is installed :
HOW TO: Fitting Triumph Sat Nav Mount & Zumo 660

"Brodit" do a mount that the "Cup" on the back of your Nuvi will click on to,
and it looks like the hole mounts for the Brodit may line up nicely
with those on the Triumph Bracket ( I don't know the dimensions /spacing of the holes,
but they do seem to be standardised across GPS type devices ).

Here's a Link to give you a better idea :
Brodit Tilt Swivel Mount, Item No. 215547

Coconut:  The Triumph Dealer supposedly also ordered a "wiring harness" that should be installed at the same time as the Mount.  The wiring harness I figure should probably come out with a end connection that would fit a Zumo GPS, but I haven't checked.  Hopefully it is the same connection as my current GPS has.  If not, I guess I should leave my current GPS wire with the dealer to have it run along with the other wires.

If I didn't want to use the "large" tank bag I could have just went with an easier mounting system.

Currently I'm thinking of using the following Ram Mount items:
       - RAM-HOL-UN10BU   X-mount w/tether
       - RAP-B-200-1-293U  Socket Arm  w/Octagon

About the best items I found so far to make it all work....?

Coconut:  I've been checking out the "Brodit" website.  I think the mount (Item # 215547) that you suggested should connect to my GPS and also should be able to connect to the OEM Triumph Mount.  Thanks for the lead to Brodit!

    You're  :400:  !

I'm a bit sceptical about the Dealer ordering a "wiring harness".

The Trophy has a dedicated "clean" Power suppply for Sat Nav's,
which is a moulded Socket buried away and taped to the main harness
behind and below the left mirror pod.

I suspect the "Wiring Harness" your Dealer is ordering is this :
Triumph GPS Accessory Cable which has a plug on one end
to connect to the Trophy Sat Nav Power socket,
and bare wires on the other end to connect a 12V Sat Nav device to.

You won't be able to connect that directly to your Nuvi,
so ask your Dealer NOT to install the Bracket yet,
until you have sorted out the correct wiring,
otherwise you WILL have to take it all apart again !

Garmin state that "in the box" with this Model of Nuvi,
is a USB cable and a 12V "Cigar lighter" type of power cable,
either of which can be used to plug into a Mini or Micro USB socket
on the back of the Nuvi device.
( Unfortunately there is no information on the Garmin site
as to whether it is a Mini or Micro USB socket ).

You would therefore need an adaptor cable to connect to the bare 12V wires
of the Triumph GPS Power accessory cable, with a Micro or Mini USB Plug on the other end.

Something like this : 12V to 5V Hard Wire Adapter Cable Mini USB Micro USB - on eBay UK

I'd also recommend ( as per the Sat Nav bracket installation Topic
referred to in my previous Post ) that you insert an In-Line Fuse holder
between the triumph GPS accessory cable "+" ( red ) wire,
and the adaptor cable that feeds the Sat Nav device,
and route the wiring so that the Fuse Holder sits behind the left mirror
where it can be easily accessed if the fuse should ever blow  :028:

    Cheers  :821:

Coconut: Thanks for all the info.  I think the Triumph GPS Accessory Cable is the "wiring harness" that the Triumph Service Tech was probably referring to that will be installed along with the GPS Mount.

I plan to take my power cord for my Nuvi 2699 (Mini USB socket )and give it the Triumph Service Tech to see if they will install it along with the Accessory Cable and possibly connect to the power, etc.

I'm printing off a copy of your message to give to the Tech for additional information.  Hopefully he will review it.  There's a lot of good info in it.

I hope everything goes well with the GPS Mount install.  I got a 2000 mile trip planned in a couple of weeks and would like to have the GPS up and running on the TTSE.

Many thanks for all your help Coconut!

Does the Power Cord that you intend to use have "bare" wires to connect to a 12V Power supply,
or does it have a normal USB "Type A" plug, or Cirar Lighter Plug ?

If it's the first one, then there shouldn't be any probems for the Tech to connect it  :028:

    Cheers  :821:

It has the "Cig lighter" end.  I was just going to have the Service Tech cut off the Cig end and then connect as necessary (if they will do that).  I figure I can purchase a replacement "Cig Lighter Cord" for the GPS.

I'm also going to check my "extra" cords box to see if I have what might work.  Hopefully a standard USB Plug to a Mini USB Plug.

If all this fails I think I'll just plug the darn GPS directly into the current Cig Lighter outlet in the side storage and take my trip and worry about it later.  I double checked it last night and the GPS powers up when the bike is running.

    Thanks Coconut!
