    Exhaust down pipe cracks

I have just come off the phone with the dealer, who is currently carrying out a service and MOT on my Trophy. The exhaust down pipes are cracked - not at a weld, but the metal itself. When they took it to a specialist welder for him to try and fix it (replacement part comes out at £700), he described it as "monkey metal"  :087:

The dealer is working on this but it is worrying and as my machine is an early one (lowest VIN of the model) I thought it worth posting this as a heads up to everyone out there. I have not seen the damage myself yet, but this dealer has an excellent reputation and I trust them. They have always done well by me so far

Has anyone else seen this fault?

My machine has about 32,500 miles on the clock, so it is just about run in....
    Now got Black TTSE

Well I have visited the dealer and see the cracks in a Photograph. Not at all pretty. They have now been welded up but no-one knows how successful a repair this will be. Interestingly enough a Triumph Explorer (same engine) at the dealers has suffered the same fault

Triumph declined to make any offer at all - pleading "too far out of warranty".

This is a little disturbing as warranty aside, 32,500 miles does not seem much for the down pipes to crack.
This bike has so far suffered from paint lifting on the radiator housing, paint lifting on the rear bevel assembly and now the exhaust down pipe cracking.
Motor car warranties are far more comprehensive than we all seem to get for our bikes, yet we pay a premium price for the machines. The dealer also mentioned that getting hold of a new Trophy is now not possible as "Sales were too poor" so they are not supplying them. On that basis keeping this one running has now become rather more important as there is nothing else out there that appeals to me

Please feel free to post a picture of the cracks if you're able. Thanks.

The photos I have seen were taken by the dealer. They are unlikely to release them but I will ask

The new gets worse and is to me quite disturbing. As of yesterday afternoon the expected availability of the replacement downpipe from Triumph is 18th August :005:

This is unacceptable and shows little or no commitment to owners. Accountants (also known as sales preventors) win again at the expense of customer loyalty and service

Fred's not looking too happy neither!

I think you're right about Company Accountants, they rule and their costing decisions ride above all others. :013:

Does anyone know of a really good fabrication company that handle stainless tube?
Is seems to me that at the moment I could do worse that look at the cost of using  the old Downpipe as a template and get a new one made, then transfer the sensor. 18th of August is a long way off... :148:
The main advantage of waiting is of course that I would have \ Triumph part which as I understand it would have a 2 year warranty on it.... :084:
