The seat has a build date of 2015 and comes with everything you need to mount it and hook up the heat.

Is it plug and play or does the heating feature require some wiring?  And does it include or is it ready to accept the backrests?

Yes, it is ready to accept both rider and passenger backrests. 

If you zoom in on the picture of the manual and wires you will see that one end plugs into the seat.  The other end has a ground connection and a spade connector that plugs into the fuse block.  So, yes plug and play.

Traded the bike.  Yes, it was installed, but only for a short time before I traded.
