Alright Which is the Best Tire?

:440: I am really an ignoramus when it comes to bike tires or tyres as our UK friends say it.
Oh, BTW, spellcheck didn't want me to spell tyres (they used tires and type lol).  Anyways, I have waited almost two weeks now for my TTSE phantom black to be delivered as it is having a top box and Simonize coating put on it. I haven't even test driven it for reasons I won't get into here.  I don't know what tires come on it?  Are they considered state of the art or just so so? If I was going to get the best tires possible what would you recommend?  And, what is the usual life span of a motorcycle tire?  I haven't really ridden in 30 years and have no idea as to life expectancy.  I'm 67 and ride like an old geezer so wouldn't be hot rodding my new beauty.
    My best to you all!
    Gary

Gary, from another old geezer from down under the original tyres will be fine for you. Worry about what to put on after their worn. I got about 10 thousand kilometres from the original then went to the Michelin Pilot Road GT with the heavier side walls. Very happy with these, both solo and two up riding. Just don't sweat the problem til you wear out the originals. :821:

Mine came with Pirelli Angel ST's, so I assume all the new ones do.  It seems to be a pretty good tire.  Its done fine when I've pushed it pretty hard, does fine in the wet, and at 6500 miles hasn't flat spotted and has plenty of tread left.  There really aren't any bad tires available from any of the major manufacturers.  It just come down to which attributes you prefer in a tire.

    Hey Smash!

Thanks for the info!  What type of pressure do you run in your tires?  Since you are getting such good wear from them I would like that info, please.

    Best Regards,
    Gary

Factory says 42.  I run them pretty close (measure when cold.  The fact that pressure increases as you ride is taken into consideration by the manufacturer and is good for all but extreme conditions, like actual racing) and got 8500 out of my rear, my front now needs done at a little over 9k, say 9500 replacement.  Bought a different tire to try on front (Raven 009) and the rear is another Angel ST (purchased before current tire wore out).  I am going to try a different rear next time - I do not like that the Angel GT has no tread wear bears in the actual center (solid rubber all the way around) and I still had usable tire according to all the available wear bar indicators, but saw steel cord in the center.  I mean, now I know when to replace it, but I will try something different next time, maybe even a car tire again.  Worked awesome on the Goldwing and my riding style is similar.  Yup, I scraped with the Wing frequently...

I'm 68 and on my second Trophy! Both came with Pirelli Angels ST's which IMHO are perfectly decent tyres. Some have noted that when they go, they go quickly! I got about 8k miles out of the first set and they were still reasonable, but apparently they can go from looking OK to showing canvas (or whatever they use!) in a few hundred miles.
On my first Trophy I replaced the Angels with Michelin PR4 GT's which seemed a better match for the Trophy. Not that the Angels are poor, it's just that the PR4's are better!
I'm still on the Angels with my second Trophy and I'm happy with them but I will go for PR4's when they need changing!

    Hey CoJaW!
Thanks for the info! What pressure do you use in your tires?  You seem to be getting quite good mileage from them.  Also, since I haven't been around bike tires for over 30 years, do they have wear bars?  My goodness, you are on your second TTSE.  They must really be a good bike!  :028:
    My Best,
    Gary
