    A Funny Dog Story

Yesterday (Sunday) I got home from a 140 round trip on my TTSE.  I was kind of hot and tired and entered my home.  My wife had remained at home on this trip. She greeted me at the door and was frantic.  My 7 month old Giant Schnauzer puppy had grabbed two of her small half socks and swallowed them.  This was about an hour before I got home.  During the time we were discussing taking him to the emergency vet, he went in the large bathroom and grabbed a bar of soap and ingested half of it before we could get his jaws pried open to remove the remainder.  OH, BTW, the night before he had gotten onto the counter and ingested a whole stick of butter wrapper and all!!  I thought this would pass naturally and did not take the dog in for any treatment Saturday night.

When we took the dog to the emergency vet they induced vomiting finding the butter wrapper and not two (2) socks but EIGHT socks!!!  We had no idea how he had gotten the socks but they were all my wife's little half socks.  They kept (Elmo) the dog overnight and flushed him out with fluids.  They saw nothing further in the stomach although a sonogram detected something possibly in his lower intestine which should pass.  We brought Elmo home and he seems to be doing well.  We have now dog proofed the house.

Needless to say the vet bill was over a $1000.  Luckily I had medical insurance on Elmo and we will have to pay a $100 deductible and the plan picks up the other 90% of the bill.  I know some of you are asking why did I get medical insurance on a dog.  Well, to be honest he will be a show dog and both his parents are Champions. We paid about $3000 for the dog.

I hope this story was enjoyable for you all.

    Take Care and Best Wishes!
    Gary
