Preowned- service record per VIN?
on:

Hi all you Trophy owners-
as I am still looking around for a good deal I am considering a pre-owned bike.
Questions to the community:
1) is there a service check book with every bike (where authorized shops stamp the service schedule) ?
2) can I (or a Triumph dealer) lookup the service history by the VIN?
I saw a trade-in where the sales rep told me they do not have any service paper trail. should I stay away?
Thanks for your comments.

Hi fluxxcomp,
1. YES - and there's a neat little space under the Pillion seat to store it
together with the Owners Handbook.
2. YES - When serviced by an authorised Dealer they update electronic records,
and I believe any authorised Trumph Dealer can access them.
Last question - YES - Stay away !
There's no reason at all for any genuinely maintained Trophy
NOT to have a Service Record without a good explanation !

Hey Coconut, I hear about this nifty little place to place your owner's manual and service manual under the pillion but I have no idea how to get it off! duh. I would also advise our friend not to buy any TTSE without all the maintenance records. The TTSE should be scrupulously maintained and the owner who does not do this is looking for trouble when he tries to sell his bike. As you know my bike's in the shop for needed repairs.
As you say, Cheers!

One second - so a guy like me who does all of his own maintenance is going to have trouble selling his bike? I've taken mine to the dealer for things I can't do like recalls, major service, valve adjustments but oil changes are done right in my garage. Yikes, I'm screwed.

Hi There,
Certainly, a person like you should not be held down because you do your own maintenance. If you have a good rapport with your dealer and you decide to sell your bike they could write up a short note stating that you have done all the proper maintenance to your bike. This is assuming you have your specified maintenance intervals performed by them. This might help? I know some of the maintenance is beyond the regular person's abilities that Triumph wants done unless you are a bike mechanic.
Best Wishes,
Gary

The Pillion set is released by operating the keyed lock above the rear light unit.
( With the pillion seat removed the rider seat can then be removed ).
The book holder is a recess on the underside of the pillion seat.
Just to clarify that I am NOT saying owners shouldn't carry out their own services,
but that after spending so much cash on the bike in the first place,
it makes sense that "most" owners would usually keep a record
of any servicing that they have had done, or carried out themselves,
even if it's their own handwritten entry in the Service book.
If they they then decide to sell the bike on, either to a Dealer or privately,
it is in their interests to provide that service record, as it does put more value on the bike.
For me, to buy from a Dealer who says they don't have a written service record,
would start alarm bells ringing, and need further explanation !
The Service Book is also where any Recall work,
or official Modifications "should" be recorded ( Page 5 ).

Thank you Coconut for the hint of the service manual location. I will take a ride out to the dealer on Saturday and take a look.

I had the first service done by a Triumph dealer in Denver
I had a leaking fork seal replaced under warranty by a Triumph dealer in Kansas City
I had my TPMS senders replaced by a Triumph dealer in Cincinnati
I had the 20,000 service done by a Triumph dealer in Dayton
I had the heads upgrade done by the Triumph dealer in Cincinnati.
Not one dealer stamped or made a note in my book or even offered to.
I keep a spreadsheet of everything done by me and any dealer including oil changes, tires, any fluid change.
