    1st service - DONE!
    on: Sep 24, 2017, 05.02 am

656 miles on the clock and got my Dealertool cable and software in the mail. Time to do the first oil change! Man was that easy! Used the recommended Castrol 10W-40 Synthetic 4T, but opted for a HiFlo (HF204RC) oil filter (they make K&N), just for the simplicity of having the nut on the end for removal next time. Original filter came off easy enough with a large channel-lock, but next time will be quicker. Then got my Dealertool up and set the next service for 10,000 miles. Feels good to get that first one under my belt!

    Hi Schindawg,

Out of curiosity, what are you using for reference to carry out your Service(s) ?

There's a Service Schedule in the Owners Handbook,
but Version 1 had some errors in it, such as stating that :
the Fuel Filter should be changed at the 1st Service, ( no it shouldn't ! ),
and omitting to include "Headstock Bearings - Check and Adjust", which applies at every Service.

All the known errors and omissions for the Owners Handbook, plus Audio Handbook,
plus Service Handbook, plus Service Manual can be found here :

Owners, Audio, and Service Handbooks + Service Manual errata.

These have all been brought to Triumph's attention, who have corrected the majority
( but not all ! ) in any subsequent Publications, such as Version 2 of the Owners Handbook.

I've also produced a Service Schedule, with these errors corrected, that can be downloaded
as a Check list for anyone completing their own servicing here :

Servicing Data, Reference Info. & DTC ( Fault ) Codes - Scroll to the bottom of the First Post there  :028:

    Cheers  :821:

Coconut - being a 2017, it looks like I did get the updated Owner's Manual. The 500 mile service matches exactly what your updated version has. When I bought the bike, the Trophy dealer said they actually like bikes to come in closer to 1,000 miles for their first service, but any time between 500-1000 miles was fine. Just downloaded the fillable form/check sheet. I had downloaded the corrected forms prior to buying the bike, but missed the check sheet, so these will come in very handy indeed! Looks like I still need to change the final drive oil and check/adjust the steering head and I should be good. Appreciate the extra resources which will help me keep my baby in tip top shape!

Glad to be able to help  :028:

The Final Drive oil change is quite important
as it is ONLY specified to be replaced during that first 500 mile service !
( Though a few Owners do change it regularly for Peace of Mind ! )

    Cheers  :821:

Got that Final Drive oil change done this evening. Quite a bit of black material stuck to the magnetic end of the drain plug! Cleaned that up and fresh oil, so should be good to go for quite some time now!

    Hi all,
I understand you do the service work yourself. How does this comply with the (US) warranty? Doesn't Triumph request to have this done by an authorized Triumph mechanic? Who "stamps" the service check book?

I was apprehensive to buy a 2014 TTS with only 3500 mls as I saw no evidence of service done.

My dealer was fine with it. He said to just document everything and keep all receipts as proof that you purchased filters/oil, etc. Warranty should be honored that way. Anyone who purchases my bike (if I can ever bear to part with it!), will get a fully filled out maintenance record with it and all paperwork proving purchases. That used bike you were looking at should have at least had maintenance documented by the owner, even if it wasn't done by a dealer. I think you were still wise to take a pass on it!

Does anybody know if the warranty document states that it is required to be done by a dealer?
Yes, I am a BIKEAHOLIC and No, I don't need help!
