On the pin threads, they were a little stiff to unscrew, and a light smear on the rear of the pads.

I've used it in that manner too for years, on many different vehicles, never had a problem. :002:

Well I've learnt something today, my local Triumph dealership doesn't actually stock or use this 'HOAT' coolant in any bike that comes in for a service etc, they ONLY sell and use Motul Motocool Expert,....according to the blurb on the bottle, it can be added/mixed with any other type of coolant apparently. Anyone heard of this?

The subject of different coolants cropped on this video, he says that HOAT is good for 5 years/100000 miles,.....the Triumph workshop manual says replace every 3 years regardless of mileage.

Jump to 2.25 for the coolant info.

That's mightily expensive at £14 per litre (if I have read it correctly).  The genuine stuff is less than that.

I'm debating on doing my own servicing now it's out of warranty (next one is valves etc, so I may do the coolant too, amongst other things) or sending it to the dealers or somebody who know what they're doing.

I have done all my work except the 500 mile service. Well, a local ex-Triumph dealer did the 20k because the bike was getting repaired after the deer hit me. He says he almost always uses standard coolant because it is easier to find and works just as well. I did supply him with Zerex 05 (pretty sure that was it) as it is a HOAT coolant and I found it at NAPA locally.
Personally, I will just use it again since I can find it easily enough, bit if it ever goes out of stock I also won't stress a bit about flushing it out and usi g something different.

Do I need to get any of the special tools Triumph sells to do the major services?  Obviously I'll get the DealerTool.
