IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT

I just found out the ignition switch on my '13 Trophy SE has failed    :172:
$489 Cdn for the switch/keys/tumbler kit + $780 to install has got me to thinking I might try and install my self
Has anyone out there replaced the switch on their own?  :187:
If so any tips/suggestions are most welcome

There's a 12 Page Topic here : Ignition Switch Wiring Failures where several Trophy Owners,
particularly Owners of early Models suffered "tight" wiring around the Headstock area
resulting in wires being pulled out of the base of the Ignition switch.

There was one Member that managed a repair, but generally this was taken care of by Triumph -
including for some Owners out of warranty.

If this is your problem it would be worth asking Triumph if they can make a contribution
towards the cost as a Goodwill gesture for this Known Problem  :028:

Me thinks part of the problem is installing bar risers last year may have helped the problem along
I am going to contact Triumph and see if they can be of some assistance any ways
I've gone out to find my self

Hello gdawg!! I had to change the igniton switch last year. I paid in total 320 euros (it was in Madrid)...

Changing the switch out isn't too difficult.  What is difficult is getting the lock cylinders out without trashing your panniers and top box.  If you do go the route of replacement, and you go to drill out the existing cylinders, be sure to do it in a way where they won't spin.

Wow!! Sticker shock!! This repair is way above my pay grade.  I'm glad I spent $1,200 on a seven year warranty.   :125:

The Ignition Switch is a complete assembly that will be provided with new Keys for it.

The new Keys will need to be programmed in to the main ECU by a Triumkh Dealer,
( and the old keys programmed out ), as the Keys contain the Immobiliser Transponder.

Of course there is no "neeed" to change the other five lock barrels,
and incur that additional expense, unless you really do need
to have one key that works in all six locks !
( Ignition, Fuel Cap, 2 x Panniers, Top Box and Rear Seat ).

Some Members have suggested it may be better to have a different key for the Ignition switch
( especially those with the Auto arming alarm system ), so the Ignition can be left ON
while a Pannier eetc is unlocked or locked  :169:

Interesting predicament as the '01 Sprint ST had a recall concerning this very issue.  The recommended(?) fix was to zip tie the wiring harness off to the port side of the switch.  A couple of years later and out of warranty I began loosing my lights whenever I turned my handlebars - diagnosed as loose wires at the ignition switch - Triumph covered it along with a fuel line fitting issue.
