    Defeated........

I tried to mount a rear Metzeler Roadtec 01 this afternoon and couldn't get the last little bit, no matter what I did.  Metzelers are always difficult, but I guess the HWM tire is just too much.  I suspected I was in for trouble when I saw how difficult it was to get the beads squeezed together with zip ties.  For the first time in years I had to slink into the dealer to have a tire mounted.  I parked around back so no one would see me parked near the service department and snuck in through the side door.  I might have tried to put together a disguise if I'd had more time.  My head is hung in shame.  On the plus side, they only charged $20 to mount and balance and had me on my way in just a few minutes.

No shame in that, if my dealer would mount a tire for $20 I'd always let them do it.  Trouble is, they demand you buy the $180 tire from them for $275 and then charge $75 to mount and balance it, and will NOT mount a tire you bring in...

I just bought a new rear at a local non Triumph dealer and they charged me $7 less than the online price, ordered it, called me when it came in 3 days later, and I took my wheel to them and they mounted and balanced it for $43.  Long story there too in  the thread about Avon Storm 3D tires.

I saw your story in the other thread.  Aside from paying someone to do something I can (usually) do for myself, having other people tear up my stuff is the main reason I do as much of my own work as I can.

I zipped tied on and off several sets of pr4s.  Bit the bullet and found a new nomar on eBay for $499 shipped.  Have done about 5 sets on it.  Well worth it if you’d rather do it yourself and will eventually pay for itself :002:

Good on those that can do their own tires. I have absolutely no desire to even try it on my own.
