The curse of South Wales strikes again!
« on: June 30, 2013, 09:56:17 PM »
I'm doomed!

 :003: :003: :003:

I don't know what I have ever done to South Wales but it doesn't like me!

First time I went there on a motorbike my partners bike was stolen and mine was vandalised and unrideable within an hour of checking into the hotel. Went on two bikes came home with one and that was on the back of a rescue truck!

Did not go back for a while.

Finally, decided to try the South again only to be taken out by a myopic t :172: t in a mondeo. Scratch another bike!

Did not go back for a while.

Persuaded to meet up with some mates in Abergavenny for a run up to the Horseshoe pass. F  :172: g puncture!!!

Thats it, no more!!

LOL

Sorry to hear about that - out of interest how did you get the puncture fixed ?

Was it via the included RAC membership - if so how did that all work out ?

IIRC many years ago, if you took the route in via the Severn Bridge Toll
"they" used to charge Bikers to enter Wales ( free to leave ! ) but there were no dedicated Bike lanes.

My brother ( RIP Mez ) who lived in Cardiff, and objected to having to pay to go home,
was quite well known there for holding up the queues, taking as long as he could
to remove all his riding gear, searching pockets, panniers, top box, rucksack etc,
"trying" to find change to pay the toll  :153:
I'd like to think that he contributed to them removing the charge for bikes these days  :047:

Well for years I have carried around one of those motorcycle puncture repair kits with the push in rubber grommet thing!

It finally paid off being a Boy Scout!

It was a bit of a bugger and used up all 3 of the rubber washers in the kit as they kept ripping but eventually did the job and was able to reinflate, mount up and ride on.

I will go to my local tyre fitter and get them to do a proper plug repair.

Good to know it worked.  I have one of those kits that I carry with me all over France and luckily never had to use.  I wil make sure it is in for the trip later this month  :001: I did fill the tyres with goo for the first year but not since.

Glad you got home at least with a bike working this time!

I always think it is good to get undressed pay and get dressed again holding up the queue.  Bikes should always be free.

It certainly worked to plug the hole, but like I said wasn't easy to get the rubber grommet thing into the tyre.

Also. The gas cylinders aren't really man enough. I used all 3 cylinders that come with it and only got about 20 PSI. Was an interesting ride to the nearest garage to pump up proper.

I think I will invest in one of those micro-compressors too that plug into The 12v socket.

I'd be careful about using any kind of "goo" as I've read it will destroy the tire sensors.

Yes, I have also been told never use any internal goo in the tyre if you have the valve stem tyre pressure sensors fitted. It will kill them.
