gearing change

Hi, my 1993 Trophy 4 1200 I just bought presumably has standard gearing same as the 900 which is a sprocket size of 17/42. This is too revvy for me, would the bike cope with 21/40? Crazy amount of torque this thing has so I figured change the sprockets, more relaxed ride. I used to have a pan 1100 and it was low revving so by putting these sprockets on I will have same revs per mph as the Pan. Seem ok??? advice please, I'm a bit of a novice.
