Looks like the shorting link for the heated grips.   :002:

Is that the difference between having an heated grips icon light on in the dash, or not having one?

It IS the "Shorting Plug" for the Heated Grips.

It is not clear whether this activates the Circuit,
or the Insrument Panel Heated Grip Icons,
as some Members have reported that they still have no Icons,
even after fitting the Shorting Plug, and needed a Dealer
to enable the Icons using theor Diagnostic / Programming tool  :087:

Yeah, seems to be hit or miss whether the shorting link activates the heated grips icon on the instrument panel.

When I installed my heated grips, the icons came on with no issue and no dealer intervention - others on the forum, likewise, had the same experience.

Some, however, required dealer action to activate the icons though the grips did heat up without the icons appearing.  :002:

And some of us that have early versions don't even have the harness that the shorting plug connects to.  It took the dealer going into the menu to get my icon to show up after heated grip installation.  Fortunately I was able to tell them exactly where to look, thanks to a post on this forum.

I added the heated grips myself and never bothered to buy the shorting plug.  I just stuck a small piece of wire across the terminals and put the blank plug back on.  Got my screen icon no problem.
