Ditto. That pretty much exactly what I did.   I used some solid core wire out of TV satellite cable.

Is it possible to get the sensor out just breaking the bead or do you have to remove the tire from the rim?

Just the bead has always given enough access for me.

I tried to install a new battery last year but the TPM didn't work.  So I dove in again today to have a look.  1st issue, a BIG one.  I soldered the new battery in reverse order.  Hopefully, I didn't fry the sending unit.  2nd issue, the battery I put in last year was dead. So there's that.

This time around I used a different approach, more in line with replaceability.  I soldered some single strand copper to each of the connections on the circuit board.  I ran one below the battery and one above.  It creates a nice interference fit and eliminates the need for special batteries and sensitive soldering.  New tires ought to be here tomorrow.  I'll report back.

Success!  My TPM works like a charm.  As previously mentioned, I used a 2 single strands of copper wire, about 0.75mm thick.  They are soldered to each of the tabs on the circuit board.  Above and below the battery I coiled the wire to make sure it has ample contact area.  On final assembly, I put a small strip of duct tape around the case because the plastic tab that keeps it closed didn't inspire much confidence.

Sorry I have no photos.  The battery in the rear TPM is weak and I'll have to address that next time I replace the rear tire.  I'll take photos then.
