Top Box and riding two up

I got to ride two up this weekend for the first time with my husband.  Definitely will have to add a top box with the backrest on it for more two up riding so my he can be more comfortable and not on my back all the time.  I need a top case to commute to work with my laptop and lunch bag so I have to get one anyhow.  I have a Coocase 52L that I have had on my Tiger 800 since about two weeks after I got it and the weight and cross wind is not that big a deal to me.

I know the factory top box has a backrest option.  And I've seen a lot of other top boxes added to the Trophy doing a search (lots of options here).  What I have not been able to find is anyone describing the experience of riding two up with the top box backrest.

How stable is it when leaning back on a ride?
Is it adjustable forward and backwards?

I will be adding a top box to my Trophy very soon.  Just want to purchase one that works when riding two up.  Not something that will happen very often (maybe five or six times a year) but if I'm gonna spend the $$$ I want to spend it wisely.

The backrest pad on the top box is fixed and can't be moved around.  I've never been on the back on mine, and the only passengers that have been on it are my granddaughter and one of my grandsons, and they were both young enough they couldn't have been uncomfortable with a board for a backrest. :008:  No issues two up with the top box on the Trophy, though it does add some weight up high and takes attention at low speed.  I'm mostly riding solo, so my top box is very rarely even on mine any more.

As Trophied explains, the Backrest for the Trophy Top Box is not adjustable.

    It's just a large stick-on rubber pad !

In a very old Topic about "Comfort on the Trophy", Forum Member TicketyBoo
who rode Pillion with Mr. TicketyBoo ( Ian ) and had the Top Box with backrest pad,  Posted :

We've done around 20k on our seat so far (well obviously the bike is attached too !) .. I'd give it a 9.5 from the pillion point of view - I suspect Mr TicketyBoo would say about an 8.5.  We have heated seats and he has the lowered version.  We've done plenty of 9/10 hour days - my bottom is generally fine, but I get a bit of knee ache (old age I suspect more than anything else).  Mr T sometimes gets a little bit of back ache, but that's more from a current back problem than anything else I think.

I keep my top box on permanently as I need it to carry chain and laptop plus shoes when I get to work. Never had a problem with balance, my 9 year old regularly rides with me. He seems fine with it but my 13 year old complains after a 100 miles or so.  I just tell him to man up! lol :745: :745:

What works with a 13 year old not so much with a 53 year old....

Remember, happy spouse happy house.....  :018:

I will keep the top box on all the time since I commute and carry a laptop back and forth.

My 24 yrs old daughter doesn't like to get on/off the bike with the top box, but my 56 yrs wife won't ride without it. Both have taken naps thanks to the top box.  :046:

Whether going on a camping trip or just buying groceries, the inner bags are really useful!

Thanks for the picture of the actual backrest pad.  It is much more substantial than I expected...
