Just visited Bert's yesterday.     They currently have four new 2017 Trophy SE's...3 blue and 1 black.     :017:

Price tag is $11,999 plus the usual fees.    An absolute steal for this machine!     :005:

I've said it before and I'll say it again - there is no greater bargain in all of motorcycling.

The only downside is the abysmal resale values. But then, who wants to sell?

Unbelievable value for someone only interested in long term ownership.  Nice find for anyone that may be interested in a new ride. :821:

Trade-in value is relative.  If you buy a $20k+ RT, you'd be lucky to get $10k trading it in 4-5yrs later.  The big K1600 is even worse.

With the TTSE, you buy cheap and sell cheap, and be out less in the end.

If anybody is interested, I talked to Bert's and this is the initial quote I got back from them:

"The total price at regular price would have been $21,061 but with the sale you save almost $7K, the total price is $13,650."

For me, it wasn't worth haggling further, mostly because California no longer allow dealers to issue "one-way" temp tags anymore.  Apparently, too many people abused the system to avoid paying CA sales tax, so they are cracking down on dealers to:

    1. Provide actual bill of lading of shipping motorcycle to out of state, and followed by proof of title & registration in another state.
    2. Or... charge the out-of-state buyer CA sales tax.

I have done fly-in drive-home a few times and really enjoyed the ride.  Having to pay $500 to ship the darn thing means it would have to be one heck of an OTD price, which I'm not getting a warm-fuzzy with Bert's.

That said... there are a few other prospects that look promising.  :007:

Having them add in the tax isn't a huge deal, as you deduct what you paid from the tax paid in your home state. If the CA tax is more, you can request an adjustment from CA. I did this once about a zillion years ago and it worked out, but I don't remember details.

I almost pulled the trigger on one of these, but then I found a 2015 model on Cycle Trader used, with 29 miles on it (really) and I ended up getting that for about $12k OTD. The apples-to-apples numbers compared to Berts worked out to the Bert's bike was going to be almost exactly $2000 more. Still a fantastic deal, plus you get the full factory warranty. I just decided that the in-pocket money was more meaningful to me than the warranty delta (I still have some left on the 29 mile special).

Honestly, as I type this I'm wondering if I made the right decision :)
