Metzler Marathon ME880
« on: May 20, 2018, 03:38:12 AM »
Anybody tried one of these out back?  I am looking for more mileage as I have no problem remaining within traction limits.  Thinking of doing one of them in 200/55/17.  Slightly wider, very slightly taller too of course.  $133.97 at Cycle Gear.

I’d be interested in answers to this question too. I am thinking about a steel belted touring tyre after the current PR4s expire. Although I will be and always have stuck to original size.

Purchased the tire today, probably have it installed in about 8 weeks or so.  I figure the very, very slight height gain will keep the speedo the same or make it a tad more accurate.  Really, just hoping for more than 8500 miles out of a rear tire.  Tires every year is just not what I am used to.  With the CT on the Gold Wing it lasted about 3 years out back (30-33k) and 1.5 up front (no, not a CT in front of course).

I play, but have never had a dry pavement traction issue so not worried about a more touring oriented tire out back.  I slow down on corners in the rain so never a problem there.  In a car you can slide crazy, succeed, and avoid in the future.  On a bike you might only get one shot so I tend to be a little more conservative.

Tire arrived today.  Rated for 937 pounds @ 42 psi so good to go there!  It looks bigger!  Sure, it is a touch, but it seems I really can see the difference.  Maybe because it isn't mounted.  I almost wish the old one were already worn out...
