    20000 mile service

    Good afternoon all.
I have just returned from my mum's, been there on the bike  :153:
When ever I go down I always go past a house that always has motorbikes in / on the driveway, and once I saw a van with Triumph Birmingham all over it, this dealer is now shut.
Anyway, on my way past today I stopped and spoke to the chap, it transpires that he was a mechanic for this dealer and is now working for another dealer, this place sells all makes.
Anyway, he is a fully trained Triumph mechanic, I told him my TTSE is not far off the magical figure, and that I'm going to be putting the best part of 5 thousand miles on the clock, he said I would be better off getting it serviced, clearances checked, but didn't thing they would be far out if any, anyway all in all, he said he would give a full service for £100, and check for any faults with the diagnostic unit.
I'm very tempted to go to him, he wants the bike for a day, but thinking about it, the parts would cost that  :084: :084: :084:

Hi Wilco, it all depends on what he means by a service, just done my annual oil change, £40-45 for oil & filter.... then some checks...brake pads etc, so that's £50 profit. Still to strip the brakes and clean them, will do them when the wheels off for the new tyre I've ordered, other than that I don't do much else. Just do as and when it's needed.

Didn't take me a day.... more like an hour to change the oil, it will probably take a couple of hours to do the brakes.

I should of added that I have changed the oil & filter, also replaced the shaft drive oil, just for peace of mind, also fitted a new rear disk and pads all round,he will replace the air filter when he removes the tank / panels to check the valve clearances, he will also replace the coolant as a pipe has to be removed  :187:.....so not much more to do to it............Also missed off my original post, the 5k miles I will be adding, will be an European trip to and around Bulgaria in August.

If just his labour for a 20K service comes to £100, that would be a bargain,......somehow I doubt that would turn out to be true, the time it takes just to to get to the point to see/check the valves and the cost of the special cam chain tool. :084:

He say's he has the equipment to carry out most work on the TTSE, but in fairness, his garage / home workshop did appear to be wall to wall of the correct gear, hydraulic lifting bed, etc.

It's the cost of item number 24 that I object to, if he's got that, can you ask him if he'll hire it out or what he uses/does instead. :001:

I gather that it's involved in setting the correct cam chain tension.
