New TomTom 550 48 hour sale price

The factory outlet store is running a 48 hour sale on the new 5" TomTom Rider 550 motorcycle gps at $399, which is lower than the older TomTom rider 400.  I use an automotive unit that I put in a case to help protect it so I'm used to the TomTom system and OK with it.  If I had the spare cash I would certainly order one asap.  I had the BMW Garmin unit on my K1600 and never liked it as well as the TomToms that I've had.

I see Amazon is running the same deal. No $$ for me right now, had to prioritize and order a top box.

Lots of negative comments about the 400 on the company website, mostly due to lack of speed of the processor.  Supposedly this model solves that problem.  Not much information on the company website, but that's TomTom for you, their website has never been very good as far as in depth information about their products.  Odd that the factory outlet store says it's a 5" motorcycle gps, but the descriptive information says it's a 4.3" screen.  The company's website doesn't say one way or another. :745:

I use my Garmin 660 to play music and answer the phone.  Can the TomTom 550 do this?  Their website does not mention it, so my take is that it cannot.

If you have one, please let me know.

    Thanks

I had a earlier TomTom Rider and really liked it. The problem with it is the lack on an offline planner tool.  In doing scavenger hunt rallies, access to a wifi signal is not always reliable.

Descriptive says it has smartphone connectivity with Android and iPhone to read out messages and make calls with Google Now or Siri.  I personally like just using my phone connected to my Sena instead.  Who knows if it works right.

The main reason I switched from tomtom to garmin (I had both rider 1 and 2 still have them actually) was the lack of an MP3 player.  I did run a third party player but this crashed a lot when things got busy and crashed the tomtom JUST when you needed it???  There are some things I like better on the tomtom and some on the garmin.

Not sure whether the newer tomtoms have a player.

Early versions only supported 2gb cards, and like my wife's sewing machine (yeah a REALLY expensive brand) a 4gb causes all sorts of weird stuff, or doesn't work at all, according to her.  I did find someone posting somewhere that the 4gb card on an earlier model didn't work correctly.  The 550 is supposed to have a card slot and include the card for custom maps, but I don't know if it will recognize music files, but it should.
