Speedracer22 has mentioned that  " Highway 1 just north of San Francisco through Point Reyes Seashore Park is spectacular " , since we will arriving from Sacramento .Question is , where should we join Highway 1 from the north southbound without making a big detour but far enough that we don't miss out on those views!??

p.s. would ask  speedracer22 directly ( and did in a pm ) but it shows offline since 10 days

Sorry; I've been out of commission for a week or so in terms of computer use (lasik surgery). We drove south, as you know, from Crescent City, Ca, so we came into San Francisco on Hwy 1 through Point Reyes and stayed right at the intersection of 101 and 1 in Mill Valley (America's Best Value - not bad price and clean). If you can't go north from there, it looks like you'll have no choice but to detour a bit, as you said, but if you could maybe cut across to Tomales, you would see a lot of the "good stuff" in terms of coastal scenery between there and San Francisco.
