That brand has a special tire for heavy bikes ( HWM...heavy weight motorcycle ) , does anybody know if the Trophy falls in this category or if the regular tire is appropriate!

It sounds like a GT-spec tyre, same as a Michelin PR4 GT or Bridgestone T31gt. I'd go with the HWM Roadtec, yeah. Buddy of mine has these under his BMW F800gt, though not in HWM-spec.

The Pirelli/Metzeler company has a "tire recommandation" for the Trophy SE (see attached pdf) on their german website https://www.metzeler.com/site/de/ (Finde deinen Reifen - Reifenfreigabe Download -).

It is in german, but the important parts are selfexplaining. Most important sentence: Nach durchgeführten fahrdynamischen Tests wird hiermit bestätigt, dass gegen die Verwendung der nachstehend aufgeführten Reifenkombinationen keine Bedenken bestehen.
That means: "After carrying out dynamic driving tests it is hereby confirmed that there are no objections to the use of the tire combinations listed below."
I use the HWM rear tire and the standard Roadtec 01 front tire without any problems.

I have had these on for 5,800 miles and although they're now a little 'squared off' there is still loads of tread left but................... they have started to feel very strange and give a really 'vaugue' feeling when cornering etc.

Never had this feeling before with ANY other tyre though!

Had mine on for about 4000 miles. Still excellent. No problems at all.
    HWM version both ends.

    Replacing mine this week.

6,500 miles on them now and both front and rear really worn!

Going to be trying Bridgestone T31 GTs this time round!

I wouldn't. They lasted about 8500 km (roughly 5000 miles) on my trophy.
Next round for me will be a PR4gt from Michelin.

The PR 5s should be ready by the time I wear this next set out.
