    Noise from forks (TES issue)

    Hi Guys
I'm a new owner for forgive me if this sounds dumb but my experience with her so far is riding back from where I bought it and nipping to the shop for bread yesterday! (I'm allowed out after I've finished tilng the bathroom!)

I noticed on my ride to the shop and from starting her at home a few times when I turn the key I get the TES calibration ... as it should I believe. Then when I start her I get a TES warning flashing for several seconds before it tells me all is OK again.... so maybe first question ...is that normal?

While "practicing" with the controls yesterday I changed her from TES normal to comfort.

I think only since then I notice a sound from the top of the front forks area.
It's a high pitched whirring noise is the best way I can describe it. (almost sounds like a police siren! ... (maybe I need a loud speaker!)

I have just been out to try again ... turned key ... didn't start engine.... noise is still there... TES check says it's OK.

Noise continues for a few seconds after turning ignition off.

Be grateful if someone could put my mind a rest on this

    cheers

    Chris

Have you checked for any error codes that the bike may have stored in it's system?

Post any error codes you see here. :002:

Sorry I didn't know I could get to those... there is so much information on this site my head is starting to hurt!

I do have one code in there P1698.

    If it helps it's a 2013 model.

(just checked battery connections and they seem OK)

    Cheers

    Halo Chris,

Usually I use ear protection and if I go to start my bike, it is already outside the garage and I have my helmed on.
So noises with low volume are not noticed.

Therefore I just started my bike to listen.

Contact on; I hear the fuel pump in the front of the bike.
    Contact off: silence, immediately.
Starting the bike and then contact of; I hear for 2-3 seconds a noise. Do not know what it is. again fuel pump?
    I can App you a short movie…?

Thank you for doing that.. :152:

I just tried again, without starting up it goes on for about 5 or 6 secs after switching off.

P1698 is "5 Volt sensor supply circuit malfunction".

This code is often thrown up whenever the Main Battery falls to a very low voltage,
and in itself is not usually anything to worry about.

This particular Code will illuminate the MIL ( Engine Management Light ) of the Instrument Panel,
when the fault is first detected,  The MIL will extinguish ( for this fault ) after three consecutive
    "No Fault" start ups.

The code will be erased from the ECU Memory after 40 consecutive "No Fault" start ups.

The noise you are hearing could be a couple of things - one is to do with the fuel pump
which pressurise the system - ready to start when the Ignition is switched on,
and the noise is the excess pressure bleeding back.
This can indeed sound like a very high pitched, but faint Police Siren !
It is not unusual for the noise to continue for a few seconds after turning off the Ignition,
until the main ECU has shut down.

The other noise you may hear, which is more of a constant Tone, ( "D4" on a Piano scale ?? ),
can be emitted from the Glove Box locking solenoid !

    Cheers  :821:

That is wonderful news...  thank you.

The error code I was presuming was from been in the shop... it had be there a year!

Air releasing sounds just right for the noise.

I did a lot of reading about the SE before I decided and of course reading forums you read lots about things going wrong. It had to be Triumph 'cos I live in Germany (and I would have to buy lots of new clothes if I changed brand!)

I don't know if it's human nature or just mine to now be worried as this is the most I have ever invested in a bike (and I nearly had to threaten divorce to get that! although after she reversed into my Sprint 955i it left her in a poor bargaining position.

Bit more tiling to do ... then I'm out for a couple of hours to enjoy her.

    Thanks again guys
