Hi all, I'd like to replace the 12V socket with a set of USB ports. Does anyone know how to open the top case up to get to the wiring?

The female plug just pushes into the hole and is held with what can be best described as "serrations" on the out side diameter.  The  female will come out if it is pulled and rocked at the same time and there is enough slack on the wires to access the spade connectors at the bottom of the plug. Make sure you mark which is positive. I had to make a large brass ring and a c shaped part to go under the black plastic of the box inner. The large ring had 3 countersunk holes, the c shaped part had 3 tapped holes to secure it all together. Rigid now and looks as if it was factory made.

Why not use this type of adapter instead? The smallest/neatest one you can find. :002:

Because the socket's already loose in it's hole. And the 12V to USB adapter I have doesn't work properly with the trophy's 12V sockets. I know, weird, right?
So, just decided to replace it with a double USB socket from aliexpress.

I found a  standard single usb/cigarette lighter adapter which fitted the topbox point, would charge my phone, kindle and camera, but not my tablet. I had to get one with 2 usb outlets. Both are the same output voltage, but different milli amp output. All now work.

I might be very wrong here but isn't the USB set at 5.5 volts or so?

Cigarette Lighter sockets are 12 volts - so a double USB adapter would then make sense with a combined output of about 12 volts. :084:

Dont recall the output voltage of the adapter, but it is less than 12v.
