Engine Tappet Noise
« on: July 18, 2013, 12:25:21 pm »
Has anyone else experienced a "tappety" noise from their bike engine?? This is noticable at idle and on very light throttle openings. Above 2K rpm the noise is gone and the bike is as smooth as you like otherwise. I have heard that the Explorers had an issue with noisy tappets and was wondering if the Trophy, as it shares the same engine essentially, has got the same "characteristic". Mine started doing this at about 2000 miles and has not get any worse since appearing!

Hi Ras,

I have heard the above as you have described mainly at idle and in the first five / ten minutes of starting, coming from sport bikes with ear plugs in I just thought it might be a triple thing as this is the first triple I have owned.  :087:

My bike has done it,from day 1 a kind of metallic chirping noise, valves are noisey on most bike engines,my st1300 never needed touching after checking it at 25k.my Bonneville t100 also had noisy valves did them at 6k,all of them were loose.I called Triumph USA,said he'd never heard of this chirping noise,so he told me to send a video of it,which I did through my dealer. We will see what happens next.As for all you know it alls I am not so worried about valve noise its the chirping noise that bothers me,ask the Aussie boys who are now having cylinder heads replaced, they had the chirping noise.
