Has anyone ever fitted a rack on top of the top box? Would like the additional space to carry light items when touring. Not sure if there is anything around or easily available or would I have to get one fabricated and adapt some fittings?

I fitted a Gold Wing rack to the Trophy top box.   I chose the GL1800 because the legs on it allowed me to get a cleaning cloth and my hand between the rack and the top box lid for cleaning.   Plus it was the cheapest one around at the time.  Fitting was easy with clear instructions.  One thing I would add to the fitting instructions is to drill the holes in the lid of the top box slightly wider then the bolts. if the holes are too tight and you drill at a slight angle you'll not be able to match up the threads on the nut with those on the bolt.   This is to allow the bolts to wiggle a bit to facilitate locating the bolts.   It's a bot scary drilling into a nice top box lid but I managed without too much difficulty and the rack has been used successfully on a number of occasions.  I load my over waterproofs on t for quick access.

I have the same rack fitted to my top box, it came with the bike, fitted by the previous owner. I fastened a small holdall to it when I rode across Europe, no problems encountered at all.

Hi all, thanks for the replies. If possible can you let me know the size of the Givi rack that you used so I can order the right size etc. I know I can measure the top of the box but it may be more accurate if I know the actual rack size. I am going to order a new lid for the box so I have the option to swap the lids around if I want to. Just thought itís worth having the option and if I ever sell the bike the option is there for the buyer. The lids are only £110 so not a huge cost but gives some flexibility. Out of curiosity is the lid bolted straight to the lid or is it reinforced between the lid and the internal panel?  Happy to do it all myself but any advice and previous knowledge from others is gratefully appreciated.  Thanks in advance

There is an identical rack from Givi on eBay for £50. Seems to be identical but not sure if the size is the same. If it is then I will get one and fit. Just any advice on fitting would be great otherwise will dismantle the lid and cover and take it from there!
