    Auxilliary lights - Where is the best point to tap in the switch?

    I have a pair of driving lights to fit on to my 2012 Trophy SE. I can handle the positioning and the general wiring.

    Can someone point me to the best and most convenient place to tap into a feed for the light switch relay.

    I want the lights to be available all the time the ignition is on, but to go off when the ignition is off (I shall install a separate switch to control the Aux lights when running). I dont want to upset the Canbus!!

    Not 100% sure what you are asking :

    Tapping into the Trophy Headlight Relay ?, or

    Tapping into a connection to feed a new Relay for your new Lights ?

    In either case, the most accessible wiring is probably under the Headlamp Unit -
    Undo the 2 screws of the black plastic panel, and slide it towards the front of the bike to free it.

    Disconnect the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor and put the panel to one side.

    As the "Position" Light ( or "Side" Light / "Tail" Light ), as well as the Headlight Circuit
    is ON when the Ignition is ON, and OFF when the Ignition is OFF, then either of these could be used
    to Tap into and provide a Feed to operate a Relay, to power the new Lights, via a new Switch.

    You would then find a suitable Power supply to the Relay for the switched Power
    output to the Lights, which could come directly from the Main Battery via an In-Line Fuse.

    Use a Handlebar Switch that connects the Negative side of the new Relay Contacts to Ground,
    so that the Relay is switching the Power to the new Lights, and not the Switch.

    sorry for my confusing question, and thanks for the swift reply. I did mean tapping into a supply to feed the light relay, and you have given a very helpful reply. im off to the garage!!

    Coconut, when I wired my auxiliary lights in I used what you recommended, a separate relay, mounted under the seat, purchased from Nippy Normans, I then took a live fused feed from the battery to power the relay, then a live feed from the rear light to power each auxiliary lamp, so when the bike ignition is on the lights are on, and visa versa, I have no switch fitted to turn them off, the switch that was supplied with the lamps looked a little flimsy / cheap, and would not fit the bars with the supplied clamp anyway.

    I have never had any problems with the way they are wired, the only addition is that I fitted a small male and female water proof plug and socket in line to each lamp, to facilitate ease of engine crash bars when required.

    I'm confused by your write up when you describe taking a live feed from the rear light to power each auxiliary lamp, so when the bike ignition is on the lights are on, and visa versa.

    I also used a Fuzeblock which has a hot side and switched side. The switched side requires a trigger which I suspect you picked up at the tail light as I did. The aux lights are then wired into the switched side of the Fuzeblock and only light with ignition on.

    Or, am I reading your wiring method incorrectly?
