Front & Rear Brake Pads ( Specifically EBC's)

Never liked the stock pads, always been a fan of EBC pads, so purchased a full set .

The front pads EBC FA423/4HH went in without a hitch , 30 minutes to fit both sets.

The rear pads EBC  FA214/HH were a different story , these proved to be a nightmare, THEY DO NOT FIT, the pad material is way to thick even with both pistons pushed as far back as they will go the caliper will not slide over the rear disk, I'm not certain whether these were genuine , fake , or the factory made a mistake but there's no way on earth theses will fit the Trophy rear caliper.

On the other hand the UK made EBC FA214V Rear pads fitted perfectly , 20 minutes.


A personal word of advice, i've owned motorcycles with linked brakes before, they generally wear out the rear pads quicker than the fronts, seeing as the rear caliper is nearly exactly the same as the previous model ( Slightly thicker pads and different mounting system) I'd be inclined to check the wear rate on the pads and change them when they get about half worn otherwise you'll be visiting your dealer to have the pistons and seals replaced , the pistons are prone to corrosion and caliper binding in inclement weather . Even with new pads and pistons fitted you might need to apply a few taps with a hammer and block of wood for first few hundred miles. Seems that's also likely on the TTSE

Where did you get these pads from, to suspect that they could be fakes in the first place?

I'll be needing to replace mine soon, not gone for EBC yet but were thinking of this time.

According to EBC's Web Site they have three different types of Rear Pad for the Trophy :

FA Series Kevlar Organic ( FA214/2 ), 
Double H Series Sintered ( FA214/2HH ), and
Semi Sintered V Pad ( FA214/2V )

Each type of the above pads are shown as having exactly the same sizes :
Thickness Pad A ( mm) = 9.7, Thickness Pad B (mm) = 8.0

I put FA214/HH on my rear last tire change since the wheel was already off and at the shop, and it was a very simple installation with no issues.  My rear didn't really need pads at the time, but there was no sense taking it down again later to do them.  My fronts are still well short of replacement at 24,000+ miles so I must not be very hard on brakes.  I have the fronts sitting in the parts bin waiting for the need.

Got another set of rears given , last week took one look at them and told the owner , Made in USA FA214/2HH rear pads he'd accidently bought for the earlier model Trophy (which I also own ) will not fit the later TTSE on the other hand the Made in UK FA214V pads which are both of a similar thickness went in with no issues, Love the front pads, WOW what a difference , jury is still out on the rears feel a bit lacking much like the OEM pads the previous owner had fitted.

I fitted EBC FA214/2HH rear pads a couple of weeks ago, no problems getting the caliper back on......

Not sure what the difference between these and  FA214/HH ?

Maybe it's down to the thickness of rear disk you have on the bike too?.....I've just fitted a Brembo one, EBC FA214/HH pads just about went over it, I had the feeling that there were just a bit too much drag on the rear wheel, went for a ride around the block, disk and caliper a bit too warm for my liking, ended up removing a fraction of pad material.

Another option maybe to run without the shims on the back of the pads I guess, there's also a 'packing piece inlay' on one of mine, not sure if that should actually be on both of the pads?? I can't see any of these items on this page though??

And  so it goes on , somebody at the uk EBC site has made a right cock up , the part numbers listed on the site for EBC brake pads are incorrect , simon  at EBC sent me the correct part number FA214HH and a Link what's wrong with this ?  https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/motorcycle/partno/fa214hh

Ended up looking through the USA website pdf catalogue ebcbrakes.com/assets/Flip-Catalogues/EBC_Issue_202_MC_Catalogue_May_2020/mobile/index.html page 422-423 where it states EBC part Number FA288HH fits , theres also no mention of the rear disk, don't need one , but that wasn't listed either its actually EBC MD863 same as fitted to the Tiger Explorer. As it happens i fitted FA288 this morning without a hitch , what's that stupid spring for ? other than pushing the pads against the retaining pins
