Twisted Trophies 2019 Upper Midwest Regional GTG
« on: June 13, 2019, 07:22:34 PM »
Following in the footsteps of our successful National Twisted Trophies GTG in Arkansas in May, which sounds impressive, but actually consisted of nine enthusiastic members, I am also floating the possibility of a Regional GTG for those who are not able to attend a more distant event.

So, I am turning the floor over to any and all who might be interested in meeting up later this Summer. I will make the first suggestion of meeting around La Crosse or Tomah Wisconsin, as the Interstates make either location easy to access from nearby States, plus there is adequate camping and lodging options around, as well as some superb riding in Driftless Region of Wisconsin.

Please feel free to chime in with other suggestions, as well as potential dates.
Hopefully, we will be able to rival the size of this year’s National Event!  :072:

I’m going to Voyager national park this month leave Dallas the 17th.
I could meet up on the 18th a day or two and then go to the park.
The end of the week I will be heading back home.

Glad to hear that you are venturing into the beautiful North Woods 2slow!  :047:

There are a few of us that expressed interest in a GTG in SW WI for the following weekend, but we haven’t firmed up any plans yet.

If Hoovooloo and ChiefMn, along with anyone else that would still like to join in still want to GTG on the weekend of the 24th, I can still meet up with you the previous weekend to show you some twisty lake roads up in NW WI...

How about anyone else up here chiming in?  :164:

All I can say is let’s ride.
I just hope I can avoid all the drunks heading back south from Sturgis.

The Iron Butt Ride was the easy part.
What I found out was that every hotel from south of Duluth was booked.
I was going to do the Iron Butt thing and just get some sleep at a rest area.
As I was setup I looked at my weather app there was a storm coming around 75 miles wide and over 300 miles long from in Canada to southern Minnesota.
Got back on my Trophy a off to Wisconsin to find a hotel long story short no hotel
I did find a state forest with a camp ground I went in.
The first site I pulled in was taken it was so dark I couldn’t see what was and wasn’t taken I was going to leave.
Here’s where things went down hill a sign looked like it was pointing the way out.
In the day light it was just a little bit the way I didn’t go.
I made it down what turned out to be a trail, on my GPS it showed the road.
About 300 yards down the road I found a sand trap very fine sand I almost made it!

The Trophy laid over with the wheels starting up the little hill.

All of this happened around midnight.
I had been looking for four hours or so for a place to get out of the coming rain.

The rain started about 3am and I did find a restroom to get out of the rain after a hour.
It quit raining about 8am the rain had started going to the northeast over where I was.
I did find help from a millennial he walked down the “road “ and  commented that he had never seen anybody on this one.

I had tried the night before for over a hour to lift it.
The sand that was my undoing was soup, I Had pulled all the cases off and still couldn’t lift it so I left those off and after pulling the side case off that was in the sand I wrote it back to solid grounds and carried the cases back to the bike.

Long story short plan plan plan it would seem that every weekend During the summer northern Minnesota and Wisconsin get very busy and all the hotels fillup.

I wasn’t sure when I was going to stop so I just winged it.

Now that I have gone by that.
I was scolded for not calling Saddle Tramp he I’m sure could have found me a spot after riding with him yesterday and today.

He was my personal guide and he knew everything about the northern area of  Minnesota and Wisconsin.
I greatly appreciate his time and help.

Thank You Saddle Tramp
