Culmination of my love affair with Triumph

    Good morning all,

I have been riding since 1984. Dirt for years, then I realized how much of an idiot I was, and stayed away from bikes until I grew up enough to not kill myself. Got my bike license finally at the age of 32. On my third bike now in the past 8 years, with a good 200,000 km ridden since then.

I have wanted a Triumph for 30 years. I had decided that my next bike would be an Explorer. Even so, every time I walked through a dealer, I looked at the Trophys, and the Sprints, and said to myself that THAT is the bike I should get. It ticks all of my boxes, and that I'd not likely be taking a 600 lbs bike off road anyways.

This past long weekend, I was visiting friends in Calgary, 800 km south of where I live. It was supposed to be a bike trip, but for the past 2 weeks, the weather networks have been calling for severe thunderstorms all weekend. Right up through Friday morning before my buddy and I left.

We chose to save ourselves the aggravation of being soaked all weekend and drove instead.  :172: (We were going to be driving the first 500 km anyways, as I had to drop off another bike for a friend in Edmonton)

and we drove through a huge hail storm. Stopped at the side of the highway to cover the poor aluminum panels on my friends V Rod for the 20 minutes of hail. Of course, spending the weekend in Calgary, it rained only at night. Not one single drop fell during the daylight (riding) hours at all.  :157: :157: :157:

This must have been foreordained, me getting my Triumph, as had I had my Bolt, I wouldn't have gone into the bike dealership in Calgary, seen the prices, or made an offer on the spot.

Then I rode her 800 km home, and it rained. It freaking poured. I rode through the rain for 45 minutes. My buddy in his pickup called me a few times to see how I was doing. He couldn't believe that I was bone dry.

I used to be quite active on a few other forums (www.bimmerfest.com and www.yamahastarbolt.com) but I look forward to migrating here  :821:

Welcome from the Chicago area.  I am always amazed at the stillness of the air pocket on this bike.  My friends can't believe the protection afforded by the windscreen.  Enjoy your new friend.

Welcome to the gang, Jonesin!  You'll find that you've found the best bike AND the best forum!  The wife & I rode from home in So Cal to Jasper a few years ago - the Icefields Parkway is an incredible road!  I hope your town has recovered from the terrible fires a few years back (we know a thing or two about wildfires here as well).  Enjoy & ride safe!

Welcome to the club. Nice to see someone else enjoying my buddy's bike. He did some nice upgrades to it before he traded it at Blackfoot (the Skiene Photon blasters are very nice...got a set myself after he installed his).  :400:
