2nd gear jumping ???
« on: July 21, 2019, 07:54:11 PM »
Any gearbox guru's out here?
2nd gear jumps momentarily when stressed. OK if you nurse it. i.e. no beans.
Any bright ideas?
2015 TTSE - 32,000 miles. Well cared for.
At the risk of sounding terse.....no amateur speculation please. e.g. could be this... could be that.... I can do that myself.
Thanks guys.

Hi Big Chris,

I haven't experienced this myself, but am aware of it through this Forum.

Some Members have had similar issues due to wear of the Shifter Forks / mechanism.

See this Topic : Slipping out of 2nd Gear ?

Ummm, just had an interesting telecom with my main dealer who knows exactly what it is. Seen it on several 1200 Explorers (same lump). There’s a kit costing around £250 plus labour around £500. Bad enough but could be worse I guess.

I know of 3 people who have had the same trouble. All were different causes and remedies.
I think a strip down is the only way to verify which one, but the easiest and quickest is the detent and its wheel which wear allowing the jumping. I wonder if this is the mod your dealer refers to?

I'll know more at the end of the week and will let you know their findings.
