Sorry - I didn't see the motorbike !

Most Motorcyclists will be all too familiar with Drivers of Cars, Lorries etc
that pull out into their path, and then say, "Sorry - I didn't see you."

This is because, generally speaking,  they are not conditioned to LOOK for Motorcyclists,
and are only looking for a vehicle of Car size or bigger.

There have been all sorts of campaigns to try and increase awareness of this problem,
including Television Adverts such as "Think Once, Think Twice, Think Bike" etc,
and through my local Institute of Advanced Motorcyclists Group,
I became aware of this new and brilliantly simple campaign which I think is is worthy of sharing,
as it could help our children become much safer and more aware motorists in the future :

Brilliant!  Years ago when I was training to drive a school bus the comment made by the trainer was " The number one response from automobile drivers when involved in a collision with a school bus is, I didn't see the bus".  40 feet of 10 foot high yellow steel in the roadway and they "didn't see it".  Sadly a common response.  This campaign is the best I've ever seen and is something that will definitely work.  Thanks for sharing, maybe we can get the same program started here!

When I did advanced riding training some years ago, one of the police riders who was instructing one week told us how he had been on his fully liveried Police BMW, 'blues-and twos' riding through a town when a car pulled out in front of him at a junction .... and he t-boned it!!

The driver said "Sorry mate didn't see you" and his reply was ... "NO ... you didn't look!

I've seen this advert ages ago, maybe as long ago as last year, on Facebook, but unfortunately to be honest, I don't think it will work, but one can hope it will.

Brilliant idea let's hope it get rolled out country wide, the best bit of advice I was given when I started riding was:

Just remember all the other road users want to kill you !!

I sent the suggestion to Greg Abbot the Governor of Texas for a safety campaign.  If it goes anywhere it will take 3-5 years given the pace of ALL governments.  Unless it's their pay raise of course!

I hesitate to suggest it, but my fear would be that those children will be well trained in spotting motorcycles right up to the time that they acquire their first smart phone.
