Can not pair my Android phone to my 2016 TT SE
    on: Oct 04, 2019, 07.32 pm

For the last 2 or 3 days I have been trying to pair my phone to the TT SE with no success. I have been trying to follow the instructions in the Audio Manuel, which I find to be very confusing fo my 76 year old non tech brain. The only thing I have been able to get done after many hours of trying is end up a headache.
All I am trying to due is pair my phone to the SE so I can listen to the Amazon App thru the SE speakers, any help from any would greatly appreciated. :148:

Hi Cross-Country, sorry for the delay in replying - I've been busy !

If your Android Phone is already Paired correctly to the Trophy ( as "DEVICE 2" ),
then please skip the first part, and scroll down the page to the "NOTE :"
which may provide a quick solution !

I don't use an Android Device myself, but here's some general information
on Pairing any Phone to the Trophy :

First - Pair your Bluetooth Helmet Headset to the Trophy,
using the Trophy "HEADSET 1" setting.
( This Channel only allows Pairing of compatible Headsets,
and not other devices such as Phones or Media Players ).

Note that the number "1" refers to the Trophy Bluetooth Channel Number 1,
there is NO "HEADSET 2" setting.

The Trophy Bluetooth second Channel is called "DEVICE 2",
and as above the number "2" refers to the Trophy Bluetooth Channel Number 2,
there is NO "DEVICE 1" setting.
( This Channel allows Pairing of a Second Headset, Phone, Media Player etc ).

Once your Helmet / Headset is connected and confirmed as working,
( e.g. select a Radio station and set the Audio Output to "Headset" to confirm ),
move on to Pairing your Phone :

    • Press and hold the "m" button to enter the Radio Settings Menu
    • Scroll to "BLUETOOTH" and Press the "i" ( Select ) Button
    • Scroll to "DEVICE 2" and Press the "i" ( Select ) Button
    • Make sure your Phone is turned on, is close to the Trophy,
and is set to be Discoverable or Visible ( etc ) in its Bluetooth Settings Menu
    • If a device is already Paired as DEVICE 2 there will be an Option to UNPAIR it -
Press the "i" ( Select ) Button to do this, otherwise ensure "PAIR DEVICE 2"
is shown in the Display, Scroll to that message if necessary, and Press the "i" ( Select ) Button
    • Follow any additional instructions that may appear ( depending on the Device being paired ),
on the Trophy Screen, and on your Phone.
    • If a PIN Number is requested, refer to the documentation of your Phone to find the PIN Number
    • Use the "Scroll" buttons to select each PIN digit,  Press the "i" ( Select ) Button
to set that digit and move on to the next digit until complete.
    • After entering the final PIN digit ( if required ) the Trophy will search for the Phone and Pair it.
    • If Pairing is successful a Messsage will be displayed saying, "DEVICE 2 PAIRED"

NOTE : Once paired, to be able to listen to Audio on the Phone / Device
through its Bluetooth connection, a setting must be enabled in the Audio Menu :

    • Press and hold the "m" button to enter the Radio Settings Menu
    • Scroll to "SOURCE SETUP" and Press the "i" ( Select ) Button
    • Scroll to "ALT SOURCES" and Press the "i" ( Select ) Button
    • If you have a GPS connected to the NAV Audio Input of the Trophy, then the  first option,
"NAV AUDIO", should be set to "ON" - Change this as required
with the "Scroll" Buttons, then Press the "i" ( Select ) Button.
    • After setting the "NAV AUDIO", the Menu will change to "BLUETOOTH AUDIO"
    • Use the "Scroll" Buttons to change "BLUETOOTH AUDIO" to "ON",
then Press the "i" ( Select ) Button.
    • Scroll through the various "EXIT" options to Exit out of the Menus.

To listen to the Music on your Phone via the Bluetooth connection,
Select "SPEAKERS" or "HEADSET" as the Audio Output from the Trophy Menu,
and then by repeated pressing of the "m" Button, select "Bluetooth Audio" as the Source.

If you have Microsoft Powerpoint, you can download a Presentation I compiled
that will help to understand how the various Menu setttings work here :

HOW TO: Navigate the Trophy Menu

    Cheers,

Hello Coconut, thank you very much for your feedback to me about the pairing process. I have been trying to follow your instructions and the first question that comes up is since I do not have a Bluetooth Helmet Headset, do I still need to pair to the Headset 1 setting ?
I have been trying to pair to the second channel called Device 2. I have been following the instructions as they appear in the Audio Manuel and can get the unit to search for about 5 seconds, but never pairs and I get a screen that says Device 2 No Devices.   Please get back to me when you have a chance.

    Hi again,

First of all, No you don't need to have a Headset Paired to the HEADSET 1 Channel of the Trophy.
( If you do have one, it just makes sense to Pair that first ).

The Phone you are using must be compatible with the Trophy.

Triumph Technical News Bulletin 155 from February 2014 states :

    Mobile Phone/Other Devices

The minimum requirement for a mobile phone to pair to the audio unit is either
       A2DP or HFP.

For a mobile phone or other device to stream audio to the audio unit,
it must support the A2DP source profile.

For a mobile phone or other device to receive next/previous track commands
from the audio unit, it must support AVRCP.

For a mobile phone to be used for phone calls via the audio unit, it must support HFP.

Check your Android Phone to ensure it complies with the above.

If it does, then double check that your Phone is set to be "Discoverable" or "Visible",
and that it is close to the Trophy, for example - put it on the Riders Seat.

Try running the Pairing Process a couple more times if it doesn't work first time.

Try starting the Pairing Process from the Trophy Menu as described,
and THEN put your Phone into "Discoverable" mode - but within a few seconds.

Try putting your Phone into "Discoverable" mode, and then starting the Pairing process
from the Trophy Menu within a few seconds.

What make and model of Phone is it, and are there any Firmware updates for it ?
( If there are, apply them and then try again ).

Apart from that I don't know what else to suggest
unless anyone else with the same Mobile Phone has any ideas ?

    Hi Cross-Country
Are you also getting your phone to search for connections? If so you need to check that it finds the TTSE radio and select the radio connection when it appears in the list.
However the main thing you can do when the phone is connected is answer incoming calls but for that a connected headset is necessary.

Hi Coconut, Thanks For the feedback,  When I bought the TT before I left the dealer, they paired my phone to the SE and every thing worked fine till about 5 days ago, so I know that the phone is capable to be paired to SE.  About 5 days ago I was trying to change a few things in the system and I must have changed something that is stopping me from pairing the phone. I will continue to try to pair it, if I can not do it, there is a Triumph dealers about 35 miles away, maybe they can help me get this paired, I just want to be able to listen to my Amazon Music thru the cellphone like I was doing before.    Thanks again, I will let you know how I make out

Yeah forgot about streaming services. I just checked connection with my phone. As Coconut said you need to check that the phone is visible to nearby devices. This is reported at the bottom of the bluetooth setup screen on my android phone and then the connection is made from t h e TTSE radio settings and on the phone you only have to confirm the request at the end

    Hi again,

I didn't realise from your original Post that you had the Phone Paired successfully previously
and now it had stopped working, I thought you were trying to set it up from New.

Apart from "changing something" in the Trophy Settings that you suggest,
is it possible that the Phone has had some sort of Software Update, or change made to it ?

This could result in it no longer being recognised.

Go through the Set Up process again, but this tiime at the BLUETOOTH Menu,
before trying to Pair the Phone as DEVICE 2, scroll down to UNPAIR ALL,
and Press the "i" Button to delete all previous Pairings, then start afresh.
