    I just got out for my first real ride today on my new to me 2013 TTSE.  My bike said ď-1850Ē on the screen when I turned it on this morning.  It had 18447km on it before I left this morning.  I suspect the previous owner traded it in without doing the 16,000km service.  I did ask the salesman a couple of weeks ago at the Toronto area Triumph dealer I bought it from about the 16,000 km service.  He never followed up on it.  Iíve emailed the service departments at the three South/Central Ontario Triumph dealers asking for an appointment for a 16,000km service.  No response. 

    Anyways, Iím out on my ride and I stop in at a mom and pop motorcycle shop between Collingwood and Stayner.  J&R Cycles, I had never been there before.  I notice they have Triumph stuff laying around.  I ask if they were ever a Triumph dealer and they yes.  Up to 2014 when Triumph asked them to move their dealership to the city of Barrie.  They declined and Triumph pulled their franchise.  I told her about my bike needing a 16,000km service and they tell me they used to sell and service TTís all of the time.  They say they could do it but the only catch is their dealer software only goes up to 2014 and they wonít have any updates past 2014. 

    I have no service records for this bike.  So my question is...  Should I let J&R Cycles do the service?  Or should I take it to a Triumph dealer?

    I thinking having software updates for the last five years is pretty important on a bike like the Trophy.

    I think the other Forum members should chime in, but to my knowledge, the only software update that my 2015 Trophy has received since I bought it new last year addressed the radio draining the battery with the bike turned off. I suspect that your Trophy already has that update installed, but checking which version of the software you have has been discussed on this Forum. I donít know if Triumph has ever issued any updates for our Trophies since then.

    With that said, if your Trophy is out of warranty, I personally would be inclined to use the services of J&R over other Dealers that donít seem particularly interested in your business. But thatís just my $.02.  :015:

    Yes I checked my TTís radio software version yesterday using instructions I found posted by Coconut.  It is the updated version.

    I was referring to the shop's software for communicating with the bike.  I'm on my third version of dealer tool since I bought it in 2014.

    The After Market DealerTool software updates
    have been to add features to the DealerTool Software,
    such as the ability to enable or disable the Heated Grips
    and Heated Seats Icons in the Trophy Instrument Panel,
    and to Enable / Disable the TPMS system.

    DealerTool is not specific to the Trophy model,
    and software updates may be released to allow
    features on other Models, for example to communicate
    with the latest TFT Colour screens on some Models.

    DealerTool is NOT able to write to the main ECU for engine Tunes / Maps etc,
    or even the Audio software update for the US & Canadian radio version.

    You sure are literal Coconut. I donít think that J&R is using Dealer tool, I was just using that as an example of software that is upgraded over time. Their Triumph software is stuck in 2014. I wouldnít want a non-Triumph dealer messing with the Trophy. For all we know, Triumph pulled their software license when they dropped their franchise. Some parts have to be ordered by VIN, I doubt Triumph would let a non-Triumph dealer order those parts.

    Bottom line is there are lots of places Iíd take other brand bikes, but not the Trophy.

    All of the Southwestern/Central Ontario Triumph dealers must be on this group because after I created this post all three of them contacted me.   :084:  I sent all three an email that contained many of the known issues listed by Coconut in his things to check for when buying a TT post.  I have the "low battery low tire pressure" sensor issue on my bike.  Anyways, after I sent the email asking for those issues to be checked one dealer called me and was argumentative about whether I really need to check all of those things.  Another dealer stopped communicating with me entirely. 

    Anyways, I've decided to take it to a Triumph dealer in London Ontario.  They seemed really receptive to going over the bike and addressing all of my concerns.  and I think for the 16,000 km service it would be prudent to use a current Triumph dealer.  I think J&R might be a really good option for yearly maintenance, oil changes, etc. though.   W.
