    My used oil analysis

Bought bike new October 2017 in Florida.  Rode to Mississippi for first oil change (500ish miles) then across to New Mexico.  Changed oil September 2018 with factory recommended Castrol Power 1 4T 10W40 at that time and again this month October 2019.  Basically bike has had Castrol Motorcycle 10W40 since new.  Apparently sheared down to about 10W30 per this report if I read it right.  Decided to pay for TBN this time, well just because.  I ride year round so may try the 20W50 next time but wonder about cold starts in winter.  In any case posting report for future reference if anyone is interested.  Of course, nothing is requiring me to continue using Castrol but it was about the same price as other full synthetic oils when I was purchasing.

The manual says to use 10W40 or 15W50. Castrol also makes the Power 1 4T in 10W50. That's what I've been using. I've only been able to find it on-line.

Interesting report that, I've used Castrol oils for many years now, personally I'd stick with them. :002:

Don't have it in front of me, but I thought the manual specified 10/40 or 10/50.
That said, I am sure other weights will work.  I just change mine at 5k because I am weird/paranoid.  Cheap insurance.

Thanks for sharing your analysis Rick.
I have used the same oil in my BMWs for a number of years, but have never analyzed the drained oil. I performed my own 10k Service on the Trophy, but neglected to perform an oil analysis, although I probably should have, given that I had never waited 10k for an oil change before, even though it is Triumph’s recommended interval. BMW’s oil change interval is 6k miles, which in my mind is probably a bit too conservative, especially in light of Triumph’s recommendation.

I don't know why you'd consider changing anything at all; that is a pretty much ideal oil analysis. All oil will shear down to some extent, and that is a pretty small amount of degradation.

Here's my recent oil analysis. My oil is 10W50 vs Rick's 10W40. My oil run was 7000 miles on a machine with 28K vs Rick's 3500 mile run on a bike with 9K. The numbers are remarkably similar. My iron count is double and my copper count is half, and I have no idea if that's significant, but I suspect not. I wish my analyser had given me an idea of what my viscosity had sheared to like Rick's did.

I believe that would be the top two values under Properties at the bottom.  I'll see if I can find the figures vs Viscosity on another chart I've seen.  If you compare your numbers to mine which are supposed to represent approximately SAE 10W30 yours appear to be slightly stronger.  However at another site it was mentioned my numbers are barely into the 30 wt range.
