    Fuel Tank Recall
    on: Nov 01, 2019, 10.30 am
    Nov 01, 2019, 10.30 am
This is an old recall, but one I thought is worth mentioning, as some may of been missed, I cannot find anything about this being posted before on here.

Triumph motorcycles ltd, (triumph) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 trophy and trophy se motorcycles manufactured September 2012 through March 2013. The two layers used in the construction of the fuel tank may have failed to adhere, which may result in a fuel leak.
    Recalled Vehicles:
2012 Triumph Trophy;  2013 Triumph Trophy;  2012 Triumph Trophy Se;  2013 Triumph Trophy Se
    Component: Fuel System, Gasoline:storage:tank Assembly
Manufactured by: Triumph Motorcycles America, Ltd
    Affected Units:: 513

So in reading this, it appears to be the American market bikes only, BUT as my bike is a late 2013 model, 63 registered number plate, I will be asking the question just for piece of mind.

Not wishing to scaremonger, but our members from across the pond, it may be prudent to see if your bike was in the recall, and indeed if the fuel tank was replaced, I don't need to tell you about hot engines and petrol  :084:.

Mine is 601578, so it looks like I'm in the market.  I wonder if I shouldn't just wait until my 30,000 mile service not too far off and soften the blow on the labor since they have to have it stripped down to replace the tank anyway.

Anyone owning a Trophy that falls within the VIN Range "should" have been contacted
about this Recall, and asked to make arrangements to have the work done.

It is also possible that the replacement Tank was fitted without an Owner's knowledge
if it happened to be having Servicing work done and the Dealer became aware
that the Recall / Replacement Tank was needed.

Although such work "should" be recorded by the Dealer in the Service Booklet ( Page 5 IIRC ),
that doesn't always happen, for example if the Booklet isn't available at the time,
or the Dealer "forgets", but the work WILL have been recorded on Triumph's records,
which any Dealer can check to see of the work was done or not.

Time for a Phone call Glenn !

    Cheers  :821:

    trophied :

When you make the call, you may wish to refer to the Safety Recall Letter
that was sent out to the owners of affected machines - Copy attached.

Although there is an error in the letter where they instruct that the "fuel" has to be replaced,
( which should actually read "fuel tank" ! :138: ) it also mentions that the "The service and
parts will be provided free of charge" - so you shouldn't need to worry about any extra Labor
charges if it transpires that your Trophy still needs to have this work carried out, and it does seem to make sense to utilise that to reduce the cost of your next Service if the Dealer is willing !

    Cheers  :821:

With Coconut's comment of any recalls being logged in the service booklet, mine went in for a ECM on the 20-03-2014, the work was carried out by my good friends at Jack Lilley Triumph in Ashford Middlesex, the bike was actually supplied by them to the first owner, a gentleman who lived near Hammersmith, I have the registration form still stapled to the service booklet, the bike was first registered on the 02-09-2013.

Reading the form it say's Model: Trophy SE A1.....what does the A1 stand for.  :027:
