replacement keys for a Tiger 1200 2015?
« on: November 12, 2019, 07:37:54 PM »
Asking this for an aquaintance. I went to the barber shop today here in Eustis, Fl. and it turns out the Barber there had a 2015 Tiger 1200 stolen and the cops found it a day later but no key!  He only got one when he bought it used and no key code. He asked me if I knew if he could get a replacement or if the bike needed to go to a dealer. There aren't any close Triumph dealers in the vicinity anymore and as we are going to Ft Myers, area in Nov. for Thanksgiving I said I would ask at a new Triumph shop I saw in the area there. Does anyone know if these are immoblizer type keys for the 2015's or just a standard type key blank like on my 2013 SE, any help would be appreciated.

You might be better off asking the question on the Triumph Tiger Explorer Forum !

Looking at Tiger Explorer Parts on the World of Triumph Web Site
it lists Item 3 as either "Key, Cut, Immobiliser", or "Key, Blank Immobiliser"
so it looks like the Tiger Ignition does need the key with a Transponder in it.

I am confused by your comment, "... or just a standard type key blank like on my 2013 SE ..."

The Trophy Ignition key does have a Transponder in it to de-activate the Ignition Immobiliser !

An official Triumph Dealer may be able to provide a new Ignition Key with Tramsponder
if they are given the Tiger VIN Number.  They will probably require proof of ownership,
and the new Key ( Transponder ) will then need to be programmed in to the Tiger ECU,
by the Dealer before it will work to disable the Immobiliser.

Thanks Coconut, as usual you have a solution. I will have to look closely at my keys. I did not see anything that resembled a chip ot any type of battery to work it.  both keys I have work and have never failed so they probably are. It's nice to be back in Fl. for the winter and riding even if it is a bit cool. I will check the tiger site. His problem is the nearest dealership is either 100 or close to 180 miles away. Daytona BMW used to have Triumph but quit so did the dealer in Jacksonville or Ft Myers. What a bummer Triumph can't get there stuff together better across the pond. Thanks again!

You won't see the Transponder inside your key, it is encapsulated inside the plastic.

It does not have a battery - it's presence is sensed
by an antenna which is part of the Ignition switch.
