    Heated grip failed

I just replaced my left heated grip that stopped working a while back. The replacement grip was quite inexpensive at $35 and only took me about one hour to replace but upon bench testing the failed one I discovered that I could have repaired it while still mounted. Pulling the rubber back from the outboard end revealed where the supply wires connect to the heating element wires. While hooked to an AVO meter, manipulating the connections showed that the brown wire splice was at fault and easily repaired. So, I have a spare grip in my parts collection should I ever need it but thought that posting this info may assist others in diagnosing the problem easily before taking to a shop or replacing the grip themselves if it could be repaired.

My left grip also stopped working about 6 months ago. I needed the bike for a holiday so just got the dealer to do it who was able to fit just a left grip. I think they charged about £60 all in. If I had time I would have investigated, but this is useful to know. Incidentally there was a sale of stuff by dealers recently and a full grip set was around £50

My right grip is not working now. I swapped over the connections and there is power from both so some more investigation required and hopefully it’s a similar fault.

    Thanks for the info.

On some occasion I found part of the resistance broken by crushing.

I have soldered them with tin and again they work.
