    Cost of road tax

Just wondering what other owners in other countries have to pay the government to be able to use their Trophy on the public roads?

Here in the UK, I've noticed that it's increased by 3 year after year, just got my renewal in the post and the grand total is now 91  :005:

My wife's car also has a 1200cc engine, the cost of road tax when she first got it 5 years ago were 30 and it's still that today.

I totally get the whole emissions/save the planet aspect but it would seem that the UK government doesn't want to promote/encourage the use of motorcycles. :187:

    Hello Earthman

In Belgium we pay about 60 a year for roadtaxes.  :002:

    Greetings

Hell Steve - I think you've opened a big can of worms here!!! :005:

Along with Brexit and Pot holes, Road Tax is the next biggest gripe with me...

For those like me that only ride the summer months due to bad winter conditions with cold/wet/ice/salt etc. ~ one thing I've found with DVLA is that if you tax your bike for 12 months instead of 6 months and then SORN after 6 months you only pay exactly half the fee instead of the extra profiteering amount they charge for admin.

Yes, a can of worms. Lol

I certainly don't mind paying to help keep the road network going but be fair hey. How can my light little bike be doing more damage than my wife's car? Lol

No road tax in France, we pay enough taxes otherwise. France is the current European champion for tax/GNP ratio: more than 48%

Checking in from the state of Maine in the USA...

$95 this year for the Trophy.  State to state here this will vary quite a bit.  Where I am it is based on X% of sticker price of the vehicle.  The value of X decreases fairly rapidly for the first several years of age of the vehicle, then levels out.  I don't know the particulars of the formula, but this worked to my favor by purchasing a 4 year old, brand new leftover bike - it was treated the same, in this regard, as if it had been on the road for 4 years.  Had it been a current model year it probably would have cost me something like $350 instead.

For comparison, my 2019 model Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup truck (which only gets run 'loaded' somewhat infrequently) was $850.
    2015 TTSE.  It's blue.

Although I am not a big fan of Harley Davidson motorcycles, I believe the fact that their Corporate Headquarters are in Milwaukee, Wisconsin might have a bearing on why our motorcycle license plates only cost $23, every two years!

I suspect no-one else is going to be able to better that...  :153:
