Triumph Trophy - General Chat / Re: RT or TT?
« on: August 26, 2013, 11:53:30 pm »
i went with the RT for the 3 years of warranty, the fact that there were lots of available accessories for it and i got it in the color scheme i wanted.... and because i did not want to deal with first year gremlins... my point of view was it was better for me to get the last year of something proven than the first year of something unproven.... the closest TT or RT dealer is a 5 hour ride away, so i did not want to see them more than once a year at most.... i stand by my decision and am enjoying the RT.....

I DID buy the BMW....   and while i can't say i regret not buying the Trophy, i do certainly regret not getting the chance to EXPERIENCE the Trophy...

i put my deposit on the TT back last Oct when winter hit.... by the time spring rolled around (it was a very looonnnggg winter this year) a lot of the problems had cropped up so i switched my deposit to an RT they already had on order... but i certainly do regret never getting to test ride a TT... i'm sure i would have loved it....   i look forward to coming back and test riding one when the warranty is up on the RT in 2 more years (2016)... i think by then when they have all those annoying niggles figured out it will be a great experience.....

it's like adopting a child who is 2 or 3... you jump right over all the messy stuff (messy diapers, potty training, constant crying) and get right to the joy of being a "parent"  (ok, bad analogy, but you get the idea)     i really look forward to getting my behind into the saddle of a TT a year or 2 from now.... in the meantime, i am enjoying the RT as i never owned a sport tourer of any kind before and still enjoy running the Bonnie down to the park on weekends....

i don't get the BM bashing either... i was very interested in the TT (had a deposit on one since Nov) until all the problems starting cropping up so i ended up going with the BM (and that was BEFORE all North American units had a gas tank recall)... as i mentioned the closest dealer is a 5 hour ride away and i just wanted a trouble-free bike.... the BM has been that... about 5K kms on it now since end of April and not a problem or issue of any kind.... only back to the dealer once for it's 1K oil change/service....

as far as this phantom "vibration" i just don't experience it... or else i'm so used to my Bonnie that i don't even notice it... i just did a 3K trip thru the Rockies a couple weeks ago and loved every minutes of the 7 days of riding.... i would buy the RT again in a minute.... and i would likely buy a 2015 or later TT as well in a minute as i'm sure they'll have all the bugs worked out by then.... yes i did pay more for the RT, but i got a color i wanted that wasn't available on the Triumph and was able to get the engine and pannier protection bars i wanted that weren't available for the TT at the time....

i think both companies make a great product... obviously both have had "issues".... no bike is going to be absolutely problem free.... do your own research and buy the one that seems to float your boat..... and enjoy.....

Triumph Trophy - General Chat / Re: Canada Speed Limit
« on: July 04, 2013, 06:06:15 pm »
speed limits will be posted... usually 100-110 kph... (60-65 mph)

i just did a cruise a couple of weeks ago across the prairies to Waterton and then up the Old Cowboy Trail to Drumheller and back.... nice little cruise.... great scenery... could have done without the torrential rain and wind though....

you don't have the relay doing anything..... on a DPDT relay pins 85 & 86 energize the coil.... but you only have one leg of the relay portion connected... you have a connection at pin 87 but not going anywhere...   when the relay is energized across the coil (85 & 86) then pin 87 shorts to pin 30... when the coil deenergizes then pin 87 shorts to 87A.....   in this pic you have an open-ended connection....
