Triumph Trophy - General Chat / Thank you Coconut!« Last post by Oodoom on Mar 26, 2023, 07.26 pm »Just wanted to do a big shout out for our resident expert Coconut. He gave up his Sunday to show me how to dismantle the front end of my bike, and thanks to him I now have a lovely set of switchback DRLs and some (very) shiny LED headlight bulbs fitted. As an added bonus, we also seem to have fixed my dodgy screen operation!

On Two Wheels - Bikers Chat / MOTO GP IS ON CNBC« Last post by trophied on Mar 26, 2023, 06.44 pm »The 2023 Moto GP is being broadcast on CNBC in addition to NBC Sports for anyone that is interested. That means it should be available on any of the satellite services since CNBC is a commonly included channel on them. It's on Dish today at 12:30 pm Central. CNBC can also be streamed (for free I found) on Utube if you have a subscription.

Audio, Sat Nav, and Intercom / Re: Phone mounts and power supplies« Last post by trophied on Mar 26, 2023, 05.45 pm »This is the SP Connect wireless charger before I mounted it to the steering stem nut that was drilled and tapped to take a threaded Ram ball. SP Connect DOES NOT make an anti vibraion mount that will adapt for our application. I bought one and tried everything just as a precaution even though it wasn't necessary for my phone. I used the SP Connect mount because the back of their case that attaches to the mount is a flat profile 90 degree twist lock and slides in and out of a pocket like it isn't there.

I went for the super expensive but really works well solution. I needed no vibration and maximum power to my iPhone without power into the phone jack water ingress problem. My solution is a Juiced Squeeze https://hondogarage.com/products/juiced-squeeze-wireless-charging-phone-mount and a Buzz Kill https://hondogarage.com/products/buzz-kill-vibration-isolator I just checked my receipt and I paid $197 for the Juiced Squeeze and $52 for the Buzz Kill, this is shipped to UK. At the time I used my bike as a National Escort Rider for cycle events and needed kit I could rely upon and this never let me down during extensive use all day in very poor wet weather conditions. I would end the day and my phone would be at 100% charge all without a waterproof cover (iPhone 12 ProMax) also after about 50,000 miles no phone camera issues associated with iPhones in a vibrating environment. I have always been an advocate of buy right, buy once and this is a perfect example of that. Just my $0.02 worth. 27
Maintenance, Servicing, and Mechanical / Re: Manual Cam chain adjuster.« Last post by trophied on Mar 26, 2023, 04.34 pm »With the way the top cam chain pad fits over the sprockets it would be highly unlikely that the chain could jump a tooth on the sprocket before the tensioner has enough oil to tension the chain. The exhaust cam side is the one under constant tension, and losing tension on the chain could only result in a problem if the chain was severely, worn, under no tension, and the engine backfired, to allow it to jump a tooth on the crankshaft sprocket. At least after adjusting the valves and doing prolonged scrutiny of the whole assembly that's how I see the design. Don't get me started on shims and buckets though!

Obviously an "automated" process should usually be better, but in this case it seems to be not a great design given that the automatic tensioner relies on oil pressure which doesn't build until at least 5 seconds after the bike is turned over. Other than the awful rattle, I'm not sure if it actually can lead to any damage. I haven't heard of any failures that would be specifically put down to the automatic adjuster. But, there are plenty of comments here and elsewhere about the start up rattle, and most people do not like it, myself included. In terms of use, it should be straightforward. If the rattle becomes apparent, then simply incrementally tighten the adjuster bolt until the rattle disappears. I wouldn't have though it would be something that would have to be done too often. The only concern is the fitting, and ensuring the timing is not affected, but if the procedure is followed that would be unlikely. BTW, the title of the thread should read "Manual Cam chain adjuster", but I can't change it! 29

I'd thought about removing the fuel pump relay and cranking it over a bit to build oil pressure and then starting it in situations like mine. It will probably still rattle but at least at a slower speed and makes me a bit more comfortable.
