Triumph Trophy - General Chat / Had a brief loss of sanity

Being a retired mechanical engineering manager & a vehicle "nut", I really appreciate sophisticated vehicle engineering & dynamics.
So, I've had a few technically "interesting" vehicles(Porsches, BMW's, Saab turbos, Ford SHO's, etc), as well as tons of different motorcycles(a few being Triumphs).
I have had two BMW's &, after each, I said to myself, "NEVER another Beemer"! They are wonderful machine, but way too expensive to maintain(in time & money).
My last bike before the SE was a beemer k1200lt. What a maintenance hog!
But, they do run so sweet..
Anyway, in surfing craigslist motorcycle listings, I cam across a 2010 k1300gt, that needed a little attention, for $5k.
My mind immediately went into how I could handle the work that bike needed & have a "super smooth" beemer sport tourer for easy money.
What ludicrousie!
Yes the engine is 20% more powerful than the SE, & it does have a lower C of G. Oh, yes that engine is so smooth..
But, it does not handle or have the steering feel of the SE.
I even checked out major used parts & piece prices on Ebay. They're only about 4 time more pricey for the beemer.
& NO sound/audio system.
So, my little sanity excursion brought me right back to the  Joy's & satisfactions that my dear SE(Marilyn) continues to brink me, hopefully, for years to come. Especially, when I get that slipping 2nd fixed in June!

Tyres and Wheels / Dunlop Roadsmart 2 recommendation video

I have Roadsmart 3's on my SE now, but I found this video very interesting. I try not to get caught out in the rain. So, I'm wondering if the Roadsmart 2 might be a better choice for me, as long as I could live with it's shorter life. It is very reasonably priced. The Roadsmart 4's have gotten quite pricey by comparison.

Modifications and Appearance / Anyone cut down the centerstand after installing lowering links?

I a considering getting lowering links & dropping my SE down.
However, I do keep the bike up on it's centerstand when garaged.
Now, the bike is hard enough for me to get up on the centerstand. So, dropping the bike down would make it near impossible for me to get the bike up on the stand.
Has anyone shortened the centerstand legs(0.75" or so), to compensate for the reduced static height of the motorcycle?
If so, is there any guidance to be shared on how you did it?

Could someone post a copy of that MCN(USA)road test article.
I've been looking for a copy of it for over a year & haven't been successful.
I, unfortunately, threw my copy of that edition out in a housing move about five years ago. I tried getting a reprint  last year, before the magazine went out of business, & they didn't have anything that old available.
Not that the magazine is defunct, I was wondering if any forum members had it available?

Maintenance, Servicing, and Mechanical issues / Timing Chain Top Pad rubbing the chain.

I'm putting my bike back together after adjusting the valve clearances & timing the cams.
As I tighten down the timing chain top pad onto the cam saddle, it's obvious that the top pad is rubbing in the timing chain. Since I do not recall that from disassembly, is this correct?.
I've pulled the crankshaft timing pin & the camshaft timing plate out & , then rotated the engine a couple of turns, with the tensioner tool still set, to see if the chain would set lower I to the sprockets & give some clearance. No dice.
So, does the top pad normally run on the chain???

As a current subscriber, I got an email to that effect yesterday.
I have been a subscriber for about 20 yrs & will surely miss this enjoyable unbiased publication.
I'm still trying to get a reprint of the 04/13 Trophy SE road test.
I'm bumming.

Triumph Trophy - General Chat / How dumb can I get?!!!

Yesterday, I decided to dress warm & got for a cold day's ride.
So, I dressed up in my thermals, gaiters & 3/4 touring coat. I figured the heated grips & seat would help keep my asthma at bay.
So, off I went.
However, in my haste to enjoy the sunny & clear, albeit chilly, day, I failed to lock on my saddlebags....

They jettisoned about a mile from home, at about 60mph, right after a good bump. I watched as they both slid down the road right behind me.

I immediately U-ed'd & picked them up. The covers are beat & scatched up. Quite a terrible case of plastic road rash...

I put them back on & continued a good ride.

So, now, a day later, my humble search for lunar silver replacements has started......
(dumbass).....
