Yesterday afternoon, about 5 miles from home, I stopped to take some nature pix. I had the bike off, but the 4ways on. 20 mins later, I couldn't start my trophy, because the battery was too low. I got the bike trailered home & started on the charger.
I'm picking up a new battery tonight at AutoZone, on my way home from work.
I've got an engine light up in the dash now. I suspect from a low voltage condition.
Hopefully, with the new battery & a DealerTool reset, that goes away...tomorrow....
This Sucks!!!

Changing my rear suspension unit today. The original one had been upgrade to a stiff HyPro Spring. It's too stiff for me & the dampener is just starting to weep too. Bought a good used unit from a dismantler.
Old one is out. Putting the new one in, now. The inner bolt mounting the controller bracket to the frame is giving me fits! I cannot find a way to get that bolt back in. There is no room to catch it on the threads in the frame
Drinking me nuts!
Anyone have any luck getting this one back in? If so, how?

Tyres and Wheels / Avon Spirit ST...how good?
« on: July 23, 2021, 05:53:07 pm »
Anyone here try these tires on their SE?
I avoid riding in the rain, but do get caught sometimes, like we all do.
Has anyone tried these &, if so, what's your experience?

Triumph Trophy - General Chat / Had a brief loss of sanity
« on: April 10, 2021, 12:11:01 am »
Being a retired mechanical engineering manager & a vehicle "nut", I really appreciate sophisticated vehicle engineering & dynamics.
So, I've had a few technically "interesting" vehicles(Porsches, BMW's, Saab turbos, Ford SHO's, etc), as well as tons of different motorcycles(a few being Triumphs).
I have had two BMW's &, after each, I said to myself, "NEVER another Beemer"! They are wonderful machine, but way too expensive to maintain(in time & money).
My last bike before the SE was a beemer k1200lt. What a maintenance hog!
But, they do run so sweet..
Anyway, in surfing craigslist motorcycle listings, I cam across a 2010 k1300gt, that needed a little attention, for $5k.
My mind immediately went into how I could handle the work that bike needed & have a "super smooth" beemer sport tourer for easy money.
What ludicrousie!
Yes the engine is 20% more powerful than the SE, & it does have a lower C of G. Oh, yes that engine is so smooth..
But, it does not handle or have the steering feel of the SE.
I even checked out major used parts & piece prices on Ebay. They're only about 4 time more pricey for the beemer.
& NO sound/audio system.
So, my little sanity excursion brought me right back to the  Joy's & satisfactions that my dear SE(Marilyn) continues to brink me, hopefully, for years to come. Especially, when I get that slipping 2nd fixed in June!

Tyres and Wheels / Dunlop Roadsmart 2 recommendation video
« on: February 04, 2021, 03:39:38 pm »
I have Roadsmart 3's on my SE now, but I found this video very interesting. I try not to get caught out in the rain. So, I'm wondering if the Roadsmart 2 might be a better choice for me, as long as I could live with it's shorter life. It is very reasonably priced. The Roadsmart 4's have gotten quite pricey by comparison.

On Two Wheels - Bikers Chat / New Speed Triple 1200 RS coming out 01/21?

OK, what's the skinny on this one coming out? I heard a sound track of it on YouTube today.

I a considering getting lowering links & dropping my SE down.
However, I do keep the bike up on it's centerstand when garaged.
Now, the bike is hard enough for me to get up on the centerstand. So, dropping the bike down would make it near impossible for me to get the bike up on the stand.
Has anyone shortened the centerstand legs(0.75" or so), to compensate for the reduced static height of the motorcycle?
If so, is there any guidance to be shared on how you did it?

Could someone post a copy of that MCN(USA)road test article.
I've been looking for a copy of it for over a year & haven't been successful.
I, unfortunately, threw my copy of that edition out in a housing move about five years ago. I tried getting a reprint  last year, before the magazine went out of business, & they didn't have anything that old available.
Not that the magazine is defunct, I was wondering if any forum members had it available?
