Title: Luggage rack on Side Cases by Tralex
Post by: Tralex on April 25, 2020, 10:22:04 am
Hello guys.
I have designed some luggage racks to place on the side cases.
I put the link to the videos where you can see them.
There are no modifications to be made to the suitcases, and they are placed in seconds. The suitcases keep all their function with them on.

It's a clever idea.  I would be concerned about the additional weight loading though.

Absolutely nothing happens, it is a motorcycle with a lot of power and with the suspensions to 2 helmets it gets along well, no strange movements in the condition or anything like that.

Last year we did about 12,000 kilometers loaded as seen in the photo and also my lady also climbed on the motorcycle and as if nothing.

Just to be clear, my concern with weight is the weight of the luggage people would be tempted to carry, rather than the weight of the rack itself.

Each luggage rack weighs exactly 1 kg.
It is clear that the weight that they can support is the one that the suitcase supports can support since the limit is in the suitcase's anchorages, not in the luggage rack.
The main function is to carry bulky but light objects such as sleeping bags or clothes.

Thanks Tralex - that was my reason for asking too.  :028:

Each Pannier has a Maximum Load of 10Kg :

With the Luggage Rack fitted this would reduce the maximum load that can be carried
inside the Pannier, and on the Rack combined to 9Kg - which is still a good amount,
and would certainly help for carrying Sleeping bags etc that are bulky but light in weight.

The main thing would be not to overload the weight carried,
as the Pannier hangers are only made of plastic,
and would be expensive to replace if they broke !

Cheers  :821:

Tralex,

That is a really neat and well engineered product. I like the way you have utilised the existing attachment points within the luggage.  :028:
I can see them being ideal for Camping and stowing something like sleeping bags which are bulky but lightweight.
With regards to the 10kg limit of the side stowage whilst it is a manufacturers instruction, there has to be a factor of safety in that figure so going slightly over may not be too much of an issue. (Disclaimer - i am not condoning overloading the luggage).

Tralex,

I mentioned the weight issue on another site, I think it was on here that someone reported they had broken either the "hook" on the pannier, of the retainer on the bike and asking how it could be repaired.

But apart from that, they look good, I thought of a couple myself, but at the moment, I cannot justify the cost.

I know of a case in which one of the hooks of the saddlebag broke and it was not due to the weight of the suitcase, since the saddlebag was empty. It was because of a fall.

Tralex, I dips me lid to you. Or in other words I take my hat of to you. Your ingenuity and skill in solving/manufacturing very neat and practical items to not only protect and enhance the Trophy, but increase its carrying capacity is exceptional. Cheers.   :821::152: :152: :047: :047:

Can you share the cost of a set of these please?

It seems to me that since the days of Sanglas, Derbi, Montesa, Bultaco, Ossa and others, Germany and Britain are getting competition from Spain again. To begin with, the ingenuity of Digital's solutions and now those of Tralex too. :169:

Bravo Tralex, really like the simplicity of execution to a tricky design concept especially around the mounting setup. Great setup for bulky lightweight camping gear or even just "wet"  wet weather gear etc.

:152: I to tip my hat to you...

I see that you liked the luggage rack. They are accessories that I make for my motorcycle and if a fellow friend wants some I will also make them for them, but I do not dedicate myself to this activity, I am not a supplier nor do I have a store. It is simply a job between friends. Some of you have asked the price and I have calculated that the value of the work in hours and materials is 195. Transportation to U.K. It costs me 22.60 but I have rounded it up to 20 so that the pair of luggage comes out at a price of 215. I do not want to do a business with this, I simply share the accessories that I design for me.

Tralex, you put a lot of talent in everything you do and the end result is something that those of us who have those types of front or rear bars that you have sent us. We can say that great quality.

I am lucky to own the set of front and rear bars that you have made for us, and I must say that I am very proud of them.

The next thing I'm going to ask for is that luggage kit. But first I hope everything works out and ends with this COVID19 pandemic sh#t.
