Usually I couldn't agree more.  But in this case there are really only two ways there from here and only one is efficient.  In event I've been both ways several times.  And most of west Texas is not a repeat scenery destination.   So in this one case the destination is the focal point.
I hear the BBQ is pretty spectacular. I know what you mean about boring terrain, which is why I'm going through Montana, ND, SD and Colorado; the southern Idaho/all of Utah scenery has to be the worst in the world.

Don't want to sound unenthusiastic but I'm wondering if  it will be worth a thousand mile ride each way when I've made the trip several, as in 5 or 6 times, before.
I guess it depends on what route you take?  I usually find one "event" to attend every year (could be as simple as lobster lunch in Maine), and schedule enough time for me to hit all the places I'd like to see on my way there/back.  It's not so much the destination as it is the journey.

One gang killing per week...I'd move!
We actually live 5 miles from the Mexican border and luckily we don't have anything like that. Not on this side anyway. They're killing each other by the dozens every week on
the other side.
Sorry off topic.
I'm pigeon holed with my career- I'm pretty much stuck working in the area, as there are only so many nuclear reservations in the US.  We keep hoping that the INS/Border Patrol/Homeland Security is going to actually do something, but with the idiots in Olympia now allowing illegals drivers lisences (which means they can vote!), there really isn't a lot we can do except be prepared to defend ourselves.

The most concerned in the area are the Mexican American citizens (about 50% of the local population)- the gangs are preying on their children to either join the gangs or die.  Brutal stuff that isn't going to go away on it's own, but when the majority of the countries population is living where problems like this don't exist, it's hard to get them to understand just how bad the problem is getting. There was an article in the news a couple months ago about a guy who was deported for gang activity who was back 2 days later and killed the person who turned him in. 2 days.  And our borders aren't porous.

In a word, yes.  The area where I live has been over run by the MS13 gang from Mexico, and I had a friend get shot 6 years ago during one of their drivebys.  From that day on I vowed I would never be in a position where I couldn't shoot back. So far, at the least, it has stopped me from being robbed once. You tell me- if you lived in an area where there was at least one gang killing per week, would you leave yourself (and your family) unprepared to defend yourself?

For me, the magic number seems to be 4k rpms.  No stutter at all if I keep it above 4k, horrible cut outs in stop and go.

So, is anyone other than me going?  Taos by shortest route from my house is 1250 miles.  My route to Taos is 2340, and my return route is 4265- really looking forward to putting some trip miles on the TT.

I agree.  I sprayed mine with Aqua Armor to try and stop this, but found that the leak comes through the loose zipper teeth.

Either way, I use my tank bag to store pretty much all my valuables (from wallet and camera to .40 cal) and have found it indispensable on overnight trips.  I have a tendency to forget to lock my luggage, but the tank bag is hard to forget on the bike.
