Simon,

There are actually two seals.  One is a dust seal while the other is the actual oil seal.  Have a look at the drawing on the web site http://www.worldoftriumph.com/triumph_motorcycle_parts_catalogue.php?model_id=621910 which shows the breakdown of the forks.  I would guess (although I am no expert) that there may be some of the grease between the dust and oil seals.

Hope this assists somewhat.

Simon,

Forkseals taken out looked ok to me.  I was told the grease is a very low consistency, like vasaliene, and when heats up becomes a liquid and therefore leaks out.  This was used in re-assembly of the fork and weaped out on riding the 200K's home.  I would note the amount of material that leaked was very minor and easely wiped of with a dry rag.  At this stage I have 2000K's on the bike and no further issues.

Right hand fork seal replaced by dealer.  Had a little grease weeping but wiped off and now no issues after 2000k's

Yet another with fork seal problem.  Bike in for first service today after 900K's in a week and right hand seal blown.  :110: New seal and bearing kit ordered but bike will not be ready until next week.  Dealer excellent as gave me a loner (Suzuki Bandit 1250....makes you appreciate the Trophy all the more) to ride the 200K's home.

Hi sold the ST1300 and picked up a blue Trophy SE a week ago, complete with top box and heated grips.  Completed 900 K's in a week and dropped off for first service.  Very happy and can't get the smile of my face.  Looking forward to many more k's to come.
