Title: Tank bag
Post by: Chris Higgs on December 24, 2012, 06:51:35 pm
Trophy 'tank' is plastic. For years I've been using a magnetic map/route case.
Actually a transparent sided pencil case from Staples for 1.99 into which I gaffered two magnets in, but it works a treat.
Takes a 1/3 folded A4 sheet which is just right.

Any ideas?
Don't like tank bags particularly and I'm not at all keen on the Trophy one from what I've seen.
Are there any Triumph alternatives? Maybe a 'mini' tank bag or even a satnav case that locks on somehow?

(And before anyone says 'just use satnav' - I don't have one and don't really want one having managed very well for a loong time without).

You could buy the mount and fasten a steel plate so you could use your pencil case :745: :745:

Well ThickBrit , I have never liked tank bags , last summer did an extensive ride down through the States and the east coast of Can. 9400km . I did buy a tank bag for the trip and found it grand ! It housed my rain gear , very quick access ! My I pad , pen , pad and bottle of water ...! All at your finger tips ...!
Don't use it for day or one nighters ... Lol , but for a long haul wouldn't go without , now !  :152:

:015: I have a fantastic tank bag that I used on the ST1300; three tiers - base harness, zip off main bag, zip off removable rucsac, each with a transparent top. Givi Voyager. Brilliant thing.
Just about fitted the ST though it used to raise the screen on full left lock - but irrespective of the plastic problem  it won't fit the Trophy size wise. Might keep it as a tail pack because it can also strap down.
I can see why the Triumph one is the shape it is.
Still not a fan.
However, this doesn't get over the original map/route info holder problem. I have replaced the pencil case magnets with suckers, but it's still not very satisfactory.
I might try and adapt the satnav mount and do something with that.
Seems a bit daft to have a 12k motorcycle and a bit of paper taped to the tank..... :164:

Nah. Occasionally I admit defeat and use the one on my iPhone, but it's rare I need to.
Plenty of more important things to splash out 400 on.
