Lighting, Electrical, and Wiring / Heated grip failed
« on: December 02, 2019, 07:43:45 pm »
I just replaced my left heated grip that stopped working a while back. The replacement grip was quite inexpensive at $35 and only took me about one hour to replace but upon bench testing the failed one I discovered that I could have repaired it while still mounted. Pulling the rubber back from the outboard end revealed where the supply wires connect to the heating element wires. While hooked to an AVO meter, manipulating the connections showed that the brown wire splice was at fault and easily repaired. So, I have a spare grip in my parts collection should I ever need it but thought that posting this info may assist others in diagnosing the problem easily before taking to a shop or replacing the grip themselves if it could be repaired.

Audio, Sat Nav, and Intercom / Hacked speakers - problem?

I just finished installing the Autocom kit to switch from speaker to helmet headset. The 3.5 mm jack is plugged into a Starcom Advance (10 yrs old ) which is hard wired to my Shoei Neotec helmet (new headset).
On board speakers still work as before with lots of volume but when I switch over to headset, I can only raise the volume to 5 bars as any higher starts to cause crackling in the helmet speakers and the music will cut in and out. When I plug my MP3 into the Starcom, the sound is very clear so I know that the head set is OK.

Is it possible that the on board Stereo is too powerfull for the Starcom and that is why the music cuts out at higher volume? Could someone with a similar set up please advise if they are also volume limited to the headset.

I've not had the time to road test to determine if the volume will be sufficient at road speed while wearing earplugs so any suggestions will be very welcome.

I have e-mailed Tecstar to ask if they have any insight into this but expect that I will likely get better advice on this Forum.

My name is Colin and I live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. I've had my Trophy since Jan '14 but been mostly on the RAT Sprint ST site as I also own a  2006 Sprint ST. I'm 64 years young and have been motorcycle licenced and riding for 48 years. First passed my MC test in the UK and moved to Canada in '72
This Trophy site is vastly superior to the RAT one.
