Tyres and Wheels / front tire wear
« on: July 13, 2019, 04:50:10 AM »
I just returned form a cross country tour, totaling just under 10K. miles. My front tire is worn out but the rear still has a few thousand to go. I put Michelin Piolet 5's on before I left because I heard they were long lasting. Not complaining, I know 10 thousand miles is a lot, but what concerns me is that the back tire has so much more tread. Isn't it usually one front replacement to two rear tires ? I was told by the dealer that the bike is front heavy, and because of the hot riding conditions, the front wore out faster.

Thanks for the replies.
My friend is actually a car tech, and has years of experience with wrenching. Fortunately, we pushed the linkage into 2nd gear and limped to the hotel we were staying at, 20 miles away.
The maintenance guy there happened to be friendly and kind enough to help us out with some tools, lights, drill and bits, and even a tap set. We worked the old bolt out, but need up needing to get a Help-coil. It seems things are going to we are going to have continued luck, and will be able to continue on with our road trip from here.
It seems that a different set up, such as a threaded stud that you could unbolt and slide the shift lever off, would be a better idea, but I'm no bike designer/engineer !!
Thanks again for the advise, this forum is a great place and community for Trophy riders.

Anyone have any issues or info about how to remove the shouldered bolt that holds the gear shifter on?
I'm on the road and had a spill that broke the bolt. I've tried to drill and tap the bolt out, but it's not cooperating.
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated. I know Coconut has offered much advise here, so I'm hoping someone has done or read about the replacing of this f*&#@in thing !!!

Congratulations and good luck with her. I also have a Tiger (2014) that has over 30k on it. Love that bike, and now, compared to the "beast" it seems so light and nimble !!

Just got the TTSE at the end of last season, and it has Pilot 4GT's. The ride is decent, but the mileage I got (from what I can figure) isn't the greatest. 10k up front and 13k on the rear. Now I'm not sure if this is good or bad, but I ran Anakee 3's on my tiger and had about 10k on a set that hardly looked used. Maybe because it's a heavier bike the mileage suffers?
They still have some life left, but I'm planning a 10k trip in June, and I don't want the hassle of changing on the west coast. I thought I was going with the same tires again, but I"m gonna give the road 5's a try this time.

Tyres and Wheels / Tires @ 20K

After reading quite a few posts about tires, it seems there is a lot of personal preference when choosing. However it does appear the there is a lot of others who do choose a tire that is a GT. Therefore I've decided to put the Michelin Pilot 4 GT"s on, instead of the Pilot 5"s even though the latter is supposed to be a "newer"technology. Any thoughts, or comments before I take the pants down and bend over ?? This 20K service is costing me around $2200 and I want to be sure I made a good choice.   :087:
